We are excited about the results we are getting with Fitness Together.  Three months ago we decided to “invest” in our health.  We spend a lot of time dealing with, and planning for, effort at work, with family, in hobbies, with financials, etc., but we really didn’t view our health as something that needed long-term planning.

We found the right solution to improving long-term health by increasing our overall fitness levels with Fitness Together.  They have taught us the fundamental factors to improve our fitness.  Their approach to one-on-one attention drives us much harder, with quicker results, than us going to a gym.  Liz has lost a significant number of inches/pounds in only six weeks, has more energy throughout the day, and has fewer body aches.  For Clif, an old injury had caused one leg to atrophy and was two inches in diameter smaller than the other leg.  In only six weeks, the trainers at Fitness Together have been able to increase the strength of the injured leg, which is now the same size as the other one.  Clif also increased overall strength, stamina and even sleeps better.  We now both have the confidence and motivation to continue our lifestyle changes in a way that works for us*.

Ten years ago I got back from my vacation in Mexico and decided I needed to make a change. I had gotten to the highest weight I have ever been at. The longer I waited to change the worse my health could get. When I started at Fitness Together I knew it was going to be tough but I started seeing results right away. I figured out right away that one of the big steps to success is doing my “homework” i.e. eating right. Another big step to success is having a goal. My goal every year is to look better when I go to Mexico for vacation than I did the last year.  To keep making these gains Charles has made so many changes to my workouts. The changing of the workouts really drives my focus because I don’t want to be just good enough; I want to be the best I can be. Changing this much takes a lot of focus and it could be easy to fall back in to old habits. But I have put so much work into getting to where I am now I; why would I want to sacrifice that. When look back at the pictures of me from ten years ago I can’t believe that was me. I can’t imagine where I would be had I not taken that step to change my life.

I am 47 years old and was diagnosed with MS in 1999. I have a family history of heart disease and diabetes, but I will not let anything stop me! I have 2 sons ages 24 and 22. I’ve been working on losing the last few pounds of baby weight I gained for the last 22 years. Lol

I literally spent a month researching gyms & personal trainers until I found FT and quickly realized this is where I’m meant to be!

I started my journey in April with Adam (I thought to myself this poor guy has no idea what he has been given). I will admit the first few weeks the struggle was real.  It has been almost four months now and I feel amazing, physically and mentally. I love a challenge, so I signed up for 2 cardio challenges and won. Who am I?! I do cardio 7 days a week along with my 3 work out sessions with Adam. I honestly feel like a completely different person. Adam has changed my life for the better times a million. As an added bonus Adam and I get along great! I look forward to my 3 days a week with not only Adam but Emily and Nick. Everyone is very friendly, and we have lots of fun!

After gaining and losing too many pounds, and still feeling very uncomfortable in my cloths, my own skin, and just plain un-healthy, I was at a point in my life when I knew something had to change. . I didn’t like to look at myself in the mirror. The person there was not who I wanted to be. It seemed hopeless. Over the years I had tried to work-out and get healthy but I had no direction and little encouragement. I knew I needed help if I was going to change.

I met up with a friend that I had not seen for some time and she looked terrific, fit, toned, and healthy. She told me about Fitness Together and we talked more about how it worked for her. I decided to call. I needed something that would focus on what I needed, with no distractions and focused on me and my personal goals.

Today am truly amazed at my personal progress, I have lost 50 pounds and gone from a size 16 to a size 6.* I have lost a total of 19 inches and dropped 9% of my body fat*; I walk taller, my confidence and self-esteem are back. I look in the mirror and am proud of the new me. The team at Fitness Together are totally committed to my success, the work outs are very challenging but fun. Over the last few years long and stressful work hours have gotten in the way of my fitness goals. In the past I had tried other personal trainers and gyms, but had found that I had the most success at Fitness Together. So last year I decided to rejoin Fitness Together. My initial goals were to feel stronger, get in better shape, and have arms that rivaled Michelle Obama. After training with Fitness Together I can say that I am way past Michelle Obama! I am toned all over, feel much stronger, and I am in great shape. Best of all people are really starting to notice and are envious of my arms and shoulders. During my workouts Charles pushes me to the point where sometimes I think he is crazy; but that’s great! Working as a Cardiac nurse I see everyday the importance of good health and exercise. Most of my life I had been active and had recently started running, even finishing my first 10k. I had meet a goal by running a 10k, but wanted to have a stronger core and fit into my clothes better. After working out at Fitness Together for four months I am meeting those goals and more. I have a much stronger core, I am fitting into much smaller clothes, and I am running further and faster than in anytime in my life. Best of all people are really starting to notice the change in my appearance! I would like to thanks Ben and Chris for challenging me in my workouts and keeping them fresh and fun.

After years of not taking care of myself I reached the point where I had to start making some changes. I knew getting back into shape was going to take hard work and I needed help. When I started at Fitness Together I had many goals in mind. My trainer helped me outline a battle plan to reach my goals. The first step was to start improving my diet. I worked together with my family to make healthier choices and decrease our portion sizes. The next step was to start getting my cardio in. I generally do cardio after work outs and come in on my off days. If I want to loose weight I have to create that calorie deficit. The next step was to make it to my workouts and give it my all. With the trainers at Fitness Together they push me harder than I imagined and keep me focused. The last and most important step was to be consistent. While I have come a long way I still have goals to reach but by staying consistent I know that I will reach them.

Having been a long time client of Fitness Together I am a prime example of how making your health and fitness a priority can affect your life.  Before Fitness Together I had a membership to Bally’s and Vic Tany for years and never went. I always kept it because it was 50 dollars a year and I kept telling myself I would use it someday. When I joined Fitness Together they made me accountable and for the first time in my life I started seeing results.  I figured out that not only would I ever work this hard on my own but have the knowledge to keep changing the workouts to fit my needs. One of the things I have found as well is that my goals are always evolving. What was a goal before has changed and isn’t a priority now. My goals now are to feel good and have strong joints and a strong core. Kevin my trainer has continually changed my workouts so that they fit my goals. One of the things that really clicked for me recently was how my late night eating was really affecting my waist line and workouts.  With his help I was able to cut it out and amazingly I lost 15 pounds!* Not many men my age can truly say that they really are in the best shape of their life and I have Fitness Together to thank for that!

I have struggled with starting a fitness plan and getting my weight under control for several years. Life, work, and motivation would get in the way of my progress. Joining Fitness Together has been instrumental in helping me get back on track with regular exercise and healthy eating.  Since starting in early May I have lost over 30 pounds working out with Adam three times a week*. They say you fall apart after 40. I certainly did. When I turned 40 I had 2 kids and ran my own company. Then I was diagnosed with MS at the age of 41 and cancer at 51. Neither one stopped me from doing much, but I was never completely normal again. I lost muscle and put on some pounds. My busy life gave me too many excuses to not work out.

My best decision was to start coming to Fitness Together. Having an appointment on the calendar made it happen. Emily’s training and encouragement have made a huge difference. She knows what I can do and what I can’t. It’s actually fun! She has also helped me, along with their magic scale, to determine how many calories I can really have. I was operating with misinformation and wondering why my diet wasn’t working. My weight is finally coming down and I feel better than I have in years.

There’s no shame in admitting you need help to get it done. In my case, this is what it took and I would do it again.

My wife had come to Fitness Together a few years ago, and loved the progress she made with her trainer. I wanted to give it a try as well. All my life I have been very thin.  Even after three kids I never had a problem with my weight. I was always one of those women who could do what she wants and still be thin. Then I hit my 40’s and everything changed. About five or six years ago I gained thirty pounds in a year for no obvious reason. My young metabolism had disappeared and I didn’t know who I was. Simple things like caring laundry up the stares exhausted me and worst of all my doctor was threatening to put me on medication because my cholesterol was high, my blood sugar was borderline, and my blood pressure was high.  This was my wake up call. I knew I needed to something but what? One of my friends recommended that I try Fitness Together. She was successful and I thought I could be too. Now I have adopted a whole new lifestyle. I  eat healthier and exercise more often. I no longer have cookies and ice cream as a snack at night and I don’t miss it one bit!!  Paul and the other trainers at Fitness Together have taught me the importance of working out and keeping healthy lifestyles. I actually look forward to my  daily four mile power walks with my neighbor. In just over three months I am half way to meeting my goal and best of all I feel better, stronger, and happier!

I joined Fitness Together back in January 2019, because I was ready to commit to some real change in my life.  I am the mom of two toddlers, and the baby weight was not going away on its own.  I was incredibly unhappy with how I looked and hated seeing pictures of myself.  I wanted to feel confident again and I wanted to be healthy and set a healthy example for my children.

It wasn’t easy at first, but Adam and Nick were both incredibly encouraging.  Now, I look forward to my workouts at FT and my home cardio.  It has become a part of my daily routine, which is something I never thought would be possible for me.  Seeing results has been very motivating for me and having some accountability to someone other than myself has really kept me committed to this program.  I think this might be the healthiest and strongest I have ever been!

I have always been an active guy. All my life I have played hockey and still do, but I have never done any strength training. My wife and I decided to join Fitness Together because we wanted to experience it together. She had used a trainer before but it was all new to me. After six months I can truly say I have never worked this hard in my life. And it feels fantastic! Kevin and Lindsay push me to new limits that I had no idea I had. Not only am I in better shape, but my joints feel great, and I look even better! I love the variety of exercises and periods they put me through because it keeps me on my toes and I am always making gains.

I have never been a consistent exerciser, so working out was not a priority for me. My wife has always exercised and really wanted me to become more active. I had tried personal training before, but didn’t make much progress and I wasn’t consistent. One of our friends is a client at Fitness Together and has had lots of success so I decided to give it a try. My goals were to get stronger and gain muscle mass while also setting a good example for my teenage son.
Since starting at Fitness Together I can say that I had no idea of what I could achieve. My strength is through the roof and I am lifting weights that I never would have dreamed of. I have also gained muscle mass which is something that has always been hard for me.* One of the things I like is that family and friends are really noticing that I am working out. After seeing my success my son is now working out and seeing the benefits of it. I would like to thank Charles and Chris for making workouts that are challenging and set up for my goals.

That is one of the biggest differences between Fitness Together and other personal trainers. They cater everything to your goals and it shows!

One of my favorite sayings is “Keep on moving”. I like to apply this to many areas of my life especially my health. Having systems in place helps you stay consistent. Every day I give myself a goal to get at least twelve thousand steps no matter what. Two to three times a week I work out at Fitness Together focusing on keeping my body strong and building muscle. The area that I needed to work on was my diet. Charles has always said “eat how you want to feel” and I didn’t feel great. So this year I really focused of changing my diet. It was challenging at first but I really noticed the difference right away. I also gave up all alcohol and can proudly say that I have not had a drink in ten months!! Changing my diet and staying consistent has really made the difference. My stomach is almost all gone and people are floored when they see me. Like I say Keep on Moving!!!

I moved to Michigan five years ago to take a job that I love.  However, I quickly let it take over my life and let it be an excuse for not taking care of myself.  After months of encouragement from my husband to find non-work outlets, I finally decided to try Fitness Together.  I figured that my crazy schedule would prevent regular workouts at FT, but that with a little kick start, I would work out more at home.  Who was I kidding?!  I quickly found that, not only could I make it work, I really enjoy every work out with the FT trainers. I have found the perfect mix of some regular appointments (early Saturday mornings with Nick) and the ability to make appointments at a range of times that vary with my schedule.  I get to work with everyone, which keeps it fresh and fun.  Of course, work interferes every now an then, but two years in, I keep coming back! I can’t believe how much strength and stamina I have gained.

One of my dreams is to play division one golf and possibly play on the tour in the future. I am a scratch golfer and one of the top golfers on my high school team. But for me to get to the next level I had to step it up and get fitter and stronger. It is well known that most of the professionals not only work hard on their game, but also on their bodies. Improving strength, power, and flexibly has been shown to help of all facets of a golfer’s game. That is why I started at Fitness Together. Working with Kevin has helped me improve my strength, flexibility, power, and endurance. His workouts are built around improving my game and it shows on the course. I am hitting it further and more accurately which helps me on the longer courses. My improved endurance helps me maintain my swing in long rounds and tournaments. An added bonus of all of this is my body fat percentage has dropped significantly* and I am looking and feeling better. All of this work is helping me get even closer to my dreams of Division one golf and one day playing on the tour!

As parents you have to set the example of living a healthy lifestyle for your kids. When my wife and I looked at our lifestyles, we can honestly say that we were not setting a good example. As a whole our eating habits were poor and our exercise habits were even worse. These habits were also having an affect on our health.

My wife and I decided that we needed to change. To be successful on this journey we needed to do it together. That is when we contacted Fitness Together. The trainers at Fitness Together have helped us change our lifestyles. The first step was to participate in Nutrition Together to get a better understanding of how to eat healthier as a family. The second step was to work with the trainers to improve our exercise habits. Chris and Lindsay have put us through grueling workouts that we never in our wildest dreams thought we could do. Sometimes we think they are crazy, but that is all apart of the fun! My wife and I are now losing weight and setting a better example for our kids. The best part of training is that we have other people to help support us in our journey to becoming a healthier and more active family.

Staying healthy and strong is very important to me and my husband. One of the main reasons for this is to help our daughter with special needs. To lift and carry her or aid her with her therapy takes a lot of strength and as she ages it will take even more.  I am also a first grade teacher, so I have to be healthy and strong to handle a classroom of kids that age. My husband started training a Fitness Together and got amazing results so he suggested that I try it. Resistance training is something that I have never participated in so I didn’t know what to expect. After training since the beginning of the spring I am sure glad he suggested this. Some of the things I can do now are just crazy!  I am much stronger, healthier, and things that used to be hard for me are now easy. An added bonus to working out is all of the inches I lost and the toned muscles that come with it. My clothes fit better and I look great in them! People at work and family members are really starting to notice and constantly make positive comments to me.  I would like to thank Charles and the rest of the trainers for helping me reach my goals. They push me hard and are always changing the work outs, so I am constantly making gains.  I can truly say that I now enjoy working out!

All my life I have tried to get in shape but never have stuck with anything. Life always seemed to get in the way of me getting fit. My sister recommended that I try Fitness Together. She and her husband work out at Fitness Together and have gotten amazing results. After a couple of months I can see why they love it here! I have lost two pant sizes and I feel great. I have always been active in my life, but as I got older it got harder and harder to stay consistent. With a family and a job, life can get in the way. So with the support of my family I decided to get a personal trainer to help get me back on track. My main goals were to not only find some consistency, but to get into smaller clothes, get stronger, and improve my muscle tone. With the help of Sam and all of the other trainers at Fitness Together I am reaching those goals. Sam’s workouts are extremely challenging and always changing which helps keep me on my toes. Now I am stronger and can fit into smaller clothes, but best of all I have the toned arms and shoulders to rock a sleeveless shirt during the summer time! I am happy to have found something that I can fit into my weekly routine and keep me consistent. I even had some of my friends join me for PACK classes so they can experience the fun!

Last November I went to the doctors with chest pain, while it turned out to be just indigestion it was a wake up call for me. I had never exercised in my life and my health was not good. To compound things my shoulder, back, and knees all hurt as well. Through the insistence of my wife, I reluctantly started at Fitness Together. My wife has been training at Fitness Together for a couple of years and her results are amazing, so I knew there was some hope for me.

I can say now that I am glad she insisted that I join. My blood pressure is way down and I am much healthier now.* For the first time in my life my doctor said that I should keep doing what I am doing because it’s working. Not only am I healthier, but my back, shoulder, and knees no longer really bother me. I would like to thank my wife for pushing me to join and for Charles and the rest of the trainers for motivating me and helping me get healthier.

Dear Boo, Charles and Rob,

For the last 3 years I kept saying, “I’ll get in shape and give myself a year. That should be plenty of time.” I felt like a broken record. When I chose the “I Want my body back” program I never dreamed it would really happen. I hoped it would but…

Thank you so much for giving me my body back! But more importantly, I am getting my health back.
My doctor is thrilled with my progress and the road to heart attacks and diabetes has been destroyed (well, with my family’s dismal history of heart disease and diabetes, let me tell you, I couldn’t be happier.)

Boo, from the first meeting with you I felt like, “Wow, this is a place that will really hold my feet to the fire.” You helped me identify the circumstances and the habits that were in my way and without the structure that Fitness Together provides I wouldn’t be as far as I am now.

When I first started I wrote down my 8 week goal to lose at least 8 lbs (1 lb a week seemed great). Well I lost 17 lbs!!! And 12 inches!!! And 2 sizes!!! My resting pulse went from 85 down to 74 and my recovery heart rate went from 120 to 100.

With the amazing training and support of Charles and Rob – their good humor and knowing I could do more than I ever thought I could – I’m on my way to REAL health.
I’m even tucking in my shirts, wearing belts and have given away almost ¾ of the clothes in my closet. I can even fit into my daughter’s jeans and she’s in great shape! I’m never going back again!

I did what you guys said to do – make your appointments, work hard, do your cardio and write down EVERYTHING you eat. I’m on my second Accountability Log and can’t believe how much I’ve learned about my eating behaviors. I eat (pretty much) anything I want (as long as I always count the calories) and now I can even eat one piece of candy and be satisfied.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. With a couple more months left on my program I know I will never go back to not being able to bend over to tie my shoes.

I did not look good; I was feeling awful and constantly tired. This was not a good position to be in for someone of my age. I was a candidate for high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. It was finally time to do something about this.

Working in a fully equipped private studio with a qualified fitness professional was perfect. The focus and attention was on me and my goals. Dear Boo,

Words alone can not express the satisfaction that I experienced from progress of the physical training that I received from your studio. Since I started with you, I have lost 25 pounds of body fat*, have reduced two belt sizes and have developed muscle tone that I've never had before. I no longer get winded from climbing a single flight of stairs and have much more energy on a regular basis. My blood pressure is almost perfect and my cholesterol levels have improved dramatically.* My doctor told me during my last physical that "he wished all of his patients were this healthy."

I am in the best shape that I have been in since high school 34 years ago! I even had to replace most of my wardrobe. Last but not least, my improved physical condition has made it easier for me to manage the daily challenges that life throws at us.

A year and a half ago at this time I was suffering from prostate cancer and was possibly in the worst shape of my life. I had no control over my eating, I was sedentary, and most of all I was unmotivated to do anything about it.

When I was younger I never felt like this and remembered how I could run to and from work every day like it was nothing. Last fall I decided that I had enough of living like this and wanted to focus in on improving my health. I looked at every possible option and decided to get started with Fitness Together.  Their philosophy and accountability made sense. 

With the help of my trainer Charles I began to improve my eating and started running. My ultimate goal was to run my first half marathon in April. Over the last six months I have made huge changes in my eating and exercise habits and have lost 36 pounds.*

I am also proud to say that I finished my first half marathon and have signed up to do my first full marathon this fall.

While on vacation I noticed how unhealthy I really was. The long hours and lifestyle of being a lawyer had caught up to me and I was overweight, out of shape, and had even had thrown my back out. I had previously worked out at Fitness Together when I was in Law school so I knew they could get me results. After making many life changes I can say that I am in the best shape of my life. The belly I used to have is now forming into a six pack and I am seeing muscle tone everywhere. My son and I have been involved in martial arts training for the last few years and we really enjoy it. To improve our strength and endurance we decided to start weight training together. Over the years owning my own business and having a family had lead to me gaining weight and getting out of shape. I knew I needed to do something not just for me, but for my family. A few years ago I injured my back and it just never fully recovered. I was always in pain and doing simple things almost seemed impossible. Even taking short trips up north or flying debilitated me for weeks. I knew my lower back and core were weak from the injury and I needed to do something about it. After training with Charles at Fitness Together my back is no longer an issue. Another added bonus has been the focus on eating better and doing more exercise. This has helped me keep focused now that I can travel all I want! Over the last few years severe back pain has limited my ability to live my life. Activities such as riding a bike, skiing, hiking, and golf became next impossible. Even choosing vacation destinations were affected by the fear that I might make my back even worse. Last year I decided I was tired of being in pain and wanted my life back. So I contacted Fitness Together.

When I look back and think of how I was when I started to where I am now it is amazing. I can pretty much do anything I want without the fear of back pain. To get through an average day I used to take three pain killers and three Motrin. I can proudly say I haven’t taken a pill in months! As an added bonus I dropped a couple of clothe sizes as well. About a year ago I decided I needed to make a change for myself. With the stress of long work hours, family, and life I had gotten not only out of shape but out of rhythm.  To get back on track I decided to join Fitness Together. A knee injury that I have had for many years that prohibited me from doing many things is no longer a problem for me. The most important thing is that I found some consistency. After much deliberation I decided that this would be the year I improved my health. Over the years I had let my health deteriorate to the point where I had trouble sleeping and I had become a diabetic. Pain in my hips, knees, and ankles made even simple things like walking a challenge. To improve my health I decided to join Fitness Together, and I am extremely happy with my decision. After six weeks I feel much better. My energy levels are much higher, my joints feel much better, and I can walk with ease at work. Also, I am sleeping better and my sugar levels have gone from 215 to 99.* Most of all people are really starting to notice my weight loss and improved function which makes me extremely happy. I decided to join Fitness Together, as a gift to myself. Fitness Together has helped me stay dedicated to proper nutrition, strength training, and my cardio plan. I am now able to were shorts and jeans that I have not worn in years. My strength has gone up considerably and my aches and pains in my back and shoulders have subsided due to my increased core strength and flexibility. When I first approached Fitness Together, I avoided making the decision about joining for several months, telling myself that I could surely figure out a way to work out and get in shape on my own. Well, after that “several months” it wasn’t happening on my own. So, with my husband’s encouragement I signed up for 40 sessions.

I’ve always been reasonably active as an adult, even running in a ½ marathon two years ago. But over the past two years, my level of fitness had steadily declined, my clothes were fitting tighter than ever and I just did not like the way I felt, looked, or moved. My knees bothered me, my back bothered me…nothing terrible but just not the way I was used to feeling. And I certainly didn’t like the way I was feeling.

My goals were pretty simple: feel better; get back into a more active workout routine; eat better. I knew if I did all of that I would likely lose some weight and everything would fit better.

So, here I am 40 sessions later and it has all worked. With Lisa’s encouragement, creativity, and support I have met all of those initial goals. I’ve gotten back into a routine of regular work outs, I was able to run throughout the summer without sore knees and/or back, my clothes all fit better because I have lost weight and toned up everything!! I can actually see muscle definition!!

Lisa has always had endless amounts of energy and enthusiasm for the workouts…even at 6:00 a.m. when I’m barely awake! It’s been a great experience and I would recommend Fitness Together to anyone interested. It’s been so positive for me that I’ve signed up for more sessions so that I can keep on going. Holidays and the winter blahs are not going to get me back into bad habits this year!!

I've struggled with being overweight since my early teens. After endless up and down, exhausting battles with "quick fix", "extreme" and unhealthy diets, I decided this was it. This year I did it right and got the physicality and body back that I desired for so long.

My beginning goals were to look and feel better, relieve stress and to actually stick with my plan.

Before I started, I felt eager. I was just so ready to do something about this terrible issue I've constantly had in my head. I was a bit worried about not seeing results or screwing this process up. But, I also felt generally excited and ready to work.

I have never stuck with a fitness program for this long until coming to Fitness Together. I've gained so much knowledge and training that I'll take it with me forever. It was so impossible to give up with Terry and Angela working with me every week. I feel so much more connected with my body and although I still have a way to go to that dream body, I refuse to settle or back down. I'm not focusing on disappointments, I am constantly moving forward, refining and drawing on inspiration.

I have to tell you flat out, I have never felt healthier. My goals I achieved over the past 6 weeks include feeling stronger and almost proud of this body - not really because of how it looks right off the bat (yet). But, because of how much I work it now. I feel like me and my body is now a team. Where as before, I was mostly ashamed of it and hated it.

My whole life I had always been in good shape. I enjoyed walking and playing sports and rarely had a problem with my weight. Over the last few years I watched my weight creep up and my activity go down. Life had gotten in the way of exercise and mental and emotional stress had caused me to lose control of my eating habits. I lost a lot of my confidence in myself and to make matter worse the extra weight was causing me knee and back pain. A year ago I had a stroke and lost a lot of the use of my right side. I had gone through physical therapy and had come along way but, still used a cane to get around and had to use a leg brace. Having these preconditions made doing the things I enjoyed hard or next to impossible.

After my physical therapy visits ran out I decided to join Fitness Together to help me with my recovery. With the help of Ken and the Fitness Together team, I no longer use my cane and I don’t have to use my leg brace anymore. I am getting around much better and I am also now starting to be able to do the things I enjoyed in the past. I want to thank Fitness Together, especially Ken for patiently working with me and pushing me even with my preconditions.

During my time at Fitness Together my trainer Adam has been extremely helpful and yet demanding with my training. I was getting frustrated because I was not losing any weight around my gut. I did all the cardio and weight training at least four to five days a week, but my diet was becoming an issue. My fasting blood glucose was high and I was dealing with Type II diabetes. I eliminated high sugar foods (mainly cinnamon buns!) and began focusing on fruits, veggies & lots of water. My blood sugar is back to normal, my BMI went from 32 to 28, and I’ve lost 18 lbs! I now have much more energy for my training!--

Earlier this fall I was feeling pretty down about my appearance and had no confidence in myself and I decided I needed to make a change in my life! I happened to see an advertisement  from Fitness Together.  I am 53 years old and I’ve never exercised in my life and my eating habits have always been very poor.  As a result, I was unsure that I could go through a such a fitness program and make the time for it, especially considering how much time I commit to my job.

When I first purchased my fitness sessions, I was very skeptical that I would even show up for each session. But I decided to take it day by day and I started showing up to each of my sessions with Adam (my primary trainer) and Charles.  I found the sessions more enjoyable than I thought I would. Adam and Charles are very personable and they make each session go by very quickly.  I’ve also started eating better.  I’ve now been in the program for six weeks.  In those six weeks, I lost 13 pounds, improved my BMI by 5% and lost a total of 6 inches.  I am pleasantly surprised with what I have accomplished in six weeks and I’m even more surprised by the fact that I want to keep going!--

Laura came to Fitness Together because she wanted to lose some weight, get stronger, and feel better all around. In only six weeks, she has lost 10 pounds, 3% body fat, 3 inches off of her waist, and her clothes are starting to fit looser. Working with her trainer Matt, she has improved her posture, gained more confidence, and gotten significantly stronger, using up to 75% more weight on her exercises than when she started. She has learned that health is built by lifestyle changes, which is why she has cut out sugar and now takes the 6 flights of stairs up to her office every single day. "When I started at Fitness Together 6 months ago, I was looking for exercise motivation. I have always been active with team sport and other activities, but recently I learned every excuse possible to not work out. I allowed my job and busy life to come before my health. I had never done personal trainer workouts, but knew I needed to do something new. I was struggling with my energy levels and wanted a boost to help me get into shape. It's been very hard work and has been a struggle at times. The improvements I have seen in my strength and energy levels have given me the motivation to continue  with the workouts.

Getting into shape has been a challenge for me. Being a traveling nurse who also manages people I am constantly on the road and get very little time to exercise.  On top of that I have had to have multiple bunion surgeries. Tack on to that inconsistent eating and joint problems and I was just not happy with where I was. With the help and support of my husband I joined Fitness Together. Kevin started strengthening my joints and improving my core strength. With his help I have been able to really focus in on my eating. Where I was inconsistent before I now watch what I eat and stick to the plan. Putting it all together has helped me lose weight and get control of my health.

I am now so happy with where I am and where I am going!

My fitness journey began over four years ago with a Fitness Together (“FT”) gift certificate from my wife and daughter.  Getting back into shape and losing weight had been on my mind for several years but finding the time and motivation to get started was a struggle.  After years of avoiding the gym and not watching what I ate, the pounds had piled up and I was not a happy fat person!  I really needed a change and the FT team opened my eyes to the importance of setting personal goals and sticking with a plan.  The customized approach and structure to working out has made me accountable.  I treat my weekly workouts with Adam as set appointments just like a day on the job. 

As I look back over the last few years, the weight loss has not come quickly.  However, with Adam’s help, I have come to realize that it’s not just about what I do in my FT sessions.   I had to focus on an overall program for well-being with the right balance of strength training, cardio and diet.  Early on I was sticking to my workouts but was neglecting the importance of cardio training and a consistent diet.  In January I committed to daily cardio workouts along with my three days a week with Adam.  I also focused on my diet and began intermittent fasting; only eating between noon and 8PM daily.  As a result, I’m now seeing the pounds coming off, the energy increasing and the motivation to keep it going!

I’m happy with my progress and really appreciate the support from Adam and Fitness Together.

The people and atmosphere at Fitness Together have been great. I started the program about six months ago and it's hard for me to believe how much has changed and the progress I've made toward my goals. Before starting my program, my exercise routing was hit or miss, now it's focused and regular. I actually now enjoy it, and it feels strange if I don't have some type of activity on a daily basis.
The training staff (Boo, Emily, Adam, Nick, Charles, and Lisa) are all so positive, constantly bringing their energy and encouragement with them every time you are there. They certainly have made my experience more enjoyable! I can't imagine working with another group of people. Deciding to join the Fitness Together team was one of the best decisions I've made.

I was looking for a new personal trainer when my friend recommended me to Fitness Together. He and his wife had great results and thought I would enjoy it.  In the past I have used trainers but have had a tendency to get some sort of injury. When I started out at Fitness Together Charles worked on improving my posture and getting rid of a prior shoulder and elbow injury. We really worked on core, glut, and scapular strength while improving my flexibility.  The amazing thing is that he has been able to do all of this while keeping my “great” tendons and ligaments corralled. 

I have worked with personal trainers over the years in New Jersey, Phoenix, Iowa, Dallas, and several in Detroit. Charles is by a significant margin, the most knowledgeable, high energy, smart and inspiring fitness professional who I have ever worked with. My family has really noticed the difference in how I look and move.  I am proud to say that in my late 50’s I am the strongest and the best shape I have ever been in.

Two years ago when I went to my physician for my annual check-up, my blood pressure was spiking and my AIC was increasing to almost the borderline range I also went to physical therapy for my hip, because I have a curvature in my lower spine and I have compensated all my life.  I also have osteoarthritis. When I saw the Fitness Together ad on Facebook and it stated that strength training would help women in their 50’s I made an appointment.  I have never looked back and I have not regretted my decision. Before FT I had memberships and I did not stick with any of them consistently. I had never done circuit and strength training with a trainer before.  For some reason, I am motivated and I have never made excuses for my sessions with Adam.

Two years ago I remember struggling to balance. I could not do a push-up and I was always tired. I could only hold a plank for 39 seconds. My hips were always tight and painful. My goals were not to lose weight, but to have better balance, strength, and energy and I wanted to be leaner and have more mobility. I knew that women my age lose muscle tone as they age and I didn’t want that to happen to me. I am stronger, leaner and I have more mobility in my hips with less pain.  Adam pushes me, corrects my form and encourages me.  He is always positive and professional and our 45-minute sessions fly by.  My program is individualized with my goals and health needs in mind and I look forward to each and every session with him. My Son recently got married and people have noticed how much leaner I look.  I’ve lost 5.5 inches in my waist and I definitely had to show off my arms on the wedding day. I can now hold a plank for 2 minutes and 18 seconds and I can do 21 push-ups.  My resting heart rate went down 20 bpm and my body fat is down 2.3%.  I even lost 5 pounds! I feel great and I have more energy and more flexibility. My hips don’t feel tight anymore. When you are motivated by the results, believe and push yourself, anything is possible!

Having a goal gives you something to strive for. When I started at Fitness Together my main goal was to get back in shape and eliminate my knee pain. Right away Charles worked on building up the strength in my knees and got me into much better shape. Pretty quickly we were able get my knees stronger and eliminate the pain. So my next goal was to start running. We started slowly and built up to the point where I ran a 10k. It, was then that I got a crazy idea about running a half marathon. When I was younger I had run a half marathon and wanted to do it again. So with the help of Charles we focused in on how I could achieve this goal. One of the things he taught me was to pay attention to the details of training. Running involves listening to your body and knowing when to push and to back off. Along the way I have had bumps in the road that made reaching this goal a challenge but I consistently worked at it and never gave up. Being able to overcome so many challenges and knowing where I started from makes finishing this half marathon even sweeter!

"For about four months, I tried exercising at home with some weights, core work, and the elliptical. My results were limited, so I decided to take advantage of an offer for some free trial sessions to see if this program would work. I knew right away that this was what I was looking for. All of the personal trainers have been so helpful, though my work with Adam (my primary trainer) has been terrific. He has really appreciated what I needed to work on for my fitness goals and tailored the program to areas where i needed the most work. After 3 1/2 months, I have lost 12 pounds and my pant size has gone down 3 inches. I am probably in the best shape of my life. I've even had people say to me, "you look skinny", which has never happened in my life. I have continued the weight training, cardio and dietary direction everyone has given me, and it works---slowly but surely if you stick with it."

When I started at Fitness Together I had never really worked out before. Throughout the day I would feel tired and sliggish, and wasn't happy with how I looked. Since joining Fitness Together and working with Nick and the other trainers, I have learned to enjoy working out! Nick stressed the combination of strength training, a healthy diet, and doing cardio to see the best results. At first it was tough. We worked on using proper form, flexibility, and incrfeasing muscle endurance. As the weeks went on and i got stronger, i began to see results. The workouts have been very organized and enjoyable, while still being effective. I am very happy with my results to date and that i have a plan in place moving forward!

My why? I was recovering. Recovering from the stress of weekly travel, racing time to pour my love for nursing into health systems around the country. Recovering from the loss of all that travel when my contract concluded. Recovering from unexpected surgery that challenged everything I believe healthcare should be…. And finally finding I didn’t recognize how I felt or looked.

So I am on a new journey. I want to be able to enjoy time with my family. I want to not struggle to get on the floor to play with my grand babies, or to stand up once I am down there! I want the energy that comes from being healthy. And I need that energy now that I have started a new path in my career.

I have found that external motivation that comes from a committed team of professionals, helping me, guiding me, encouraging me. My team, Emily and Nick, are excellent at keeping me on my path. They set expectations that are a stretch for me, but achievable. And somewhere along the way, I have found that internal, intrinsic motivation to keep on keeping on.
