Heart Healthy Omega-3 Brownies

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup canola oil
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 small 4 oz. container applesauce (no sugar added)
  • 1/3 cup ground flaxseeds
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup dark cocoa powder
  • ¼ tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup walnuts, chopped


Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix canola oil, egg whites, vanilla and applesauce together. In a separate bowl mix flaxseeds, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Add canola mixture into sugar mixture and stir well. Add in the walnuts and stir to mix in. Coat an 8 x 8 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.  Pour batter into pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20 minutes, let cool before cutting.
