Make tailgating healthier

Healthy snacks for tailgating

Autumn is closing in and of course, that means football is upon us. Many game gatherings center around food, which is fun but can be detrimental to the waistline. In order to avoid extra, unhealthy calories, try these healthier munchie alternatives to share with your friends:

  1. Popcorn popped at home in a popper, with a light drizzle of olive oil or butter
  2. Veggie sticks with hummus as a dip
  3. Cut up apples (those in-season are best!) lightly sprinkled with a cinnamon/sugar mixture
  4. Homemade trail mix (small portions…1/4 cup…,as this is healthy but high in calories)

Almonds, cashews, dried cranberries, dark chocolate bits, sunflower seeds

  1. Dip made with non-fat greek yogurt and herbs/spice (INSTEAD of sour cream based)
  2. Substitute baked chips for the higher fat variety to go along with #5
