September Client of the Month: Debra C.

Sep 14, 2026

Why Did Debra Start Personal Training?

When Debra joined Fitness Together Burlington in March 2026, her goals went far beyond losing weight.

She wanted to get stronger, improve her flexibility, support her bone health, and strengthen her legs so she could continue doing everyday activities on her own.

She also hoped that getting stronger might help her continue moving comfortably and avoid needing a knee replacement in the future.

More than anything, Debra wanted to feel capable and independent in everyday life.

How Did Debra Get Started?

Balance was one of the areas Debra wanted to improve when she first began training.

Putting weight on her left side made her nervous, and she also dealt with some lower-back discomfort.

So we started where she was.

Debra began strength training twice per week with a program designed to help her build strength safely, improve balance, and become more comfortable moving.

One of the clearest examples of her progress has been her tandem balance walk.

What once felt uncomfortable has become much easier with consistent practice.

That may seem like a small change, but improved balance and confidence can make a meaningful difference in everyday life.

What Progress Has Debra Made?

Debra realized that strength training was only one part of reaching her goals.

She added Nutrition Together to help address inconsistent eating and snacking, along with her monthly Stretching Program to work on flexibility, hip mobility, and swelling in her legs.

Since joining Fitness Together, Debra has:

  • Lost 10 pounds
  • Gained 3 pounds of skeletal muscle
  • Reduced her body fat by 5%
  • Lost 4.5 inches around her stomach
  • Lost inches overall
  • Improved her strength
  • Improved her balance
  • Improved her flexibility
  • Built a consistent strength-training routine twice per week

For Debra, gaining muscle is especially meaningful because getting stronger supports her long-term goals of maintaining her mobility, bone health, and independence.

What Is Debra Training For?

Debra has lived in Burlington for 48 years and enjoys visiting friends in Maine, cruising, and traveling.

Her favorite destination she has visited so far?

Hawaii.

And now she has another adventure coming up.

Debra is heading to Spain this month. 🇪🇸

That gives her another very practical reason to keep working on her strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance.

Her training isn’t simply about losing 10 pounds or improving numbers on an InBody assessment.

It’s about helping her travel confidently, stay independent, spend time with friends and family, and continue doing the things she enjoys.

How Is Fitness Together Burlington Helping Debra Reach Her Goals?

Debra’s progress is a good example of why personalized training matters.

Her twice-weekly strength sessions are built around her current abilities, balance, mobility, and long-term goals—not a one-size-fits-all workout.

By combining personal training with Nutrition Together and her monthly Stretching Program, Debra is working on the bigger picture:

strength, balance, flexibility, nutrition, and independence.

That’s exactly what we want training to support.

What Does Debra Enjoy Outside the Studio?

Debra worked in the Investment Management Office at MIT and enjoys crafting and making cards for holidays and birthdays.

She has 11 nieces and nephews, enjoys mystery books, and is a fan of author James Patterson.

Her favorite foods are lasagna and chocolate, and Texas Roadhouse is her favorite restaurant—as long as she gets to use the free appetizer.

And her favorite exercise?

According to Debra: none of them.

But if she has to choose, tricep pushdowns win.

Why Does Debra Inspire Us?

Debra is a great reminder that getting stronger doesn’t require completely changing your life.

Sometimes it starts with showing up twice a week.

It means working on your balance even when it feels uncomfortable at first.

It means learning how to fuel your body better.

And it means making small, consistent changes that help you feel stronger and more capable.

For Debra, all of that work is helping her prepare for the life she wants to keep living—including her next trip to Spain.

We’re proud of the progress she has made and excited to see where she goes next.

Congratulations, Debra, on being our September Client of the Month!

What’s the Bottom Line?

Strength training isn’t only about lifting heavier weights or changing the number on the scale.

For many people, the real goal is to move confidently, maintain balance, stay independent, and keep doing the things they love.

That’s exactly what Debra is working toward at Fitness Together Burlington.
