May Movement in a Minute
May 18, 2026
Welcome back to Movement in a Minute, simple tips & solutions you can apply immediately to your life to live better and pain free.
This month, we’re talking about hip health and single leg strength. As outdoor activities like walking, hiking and yard work ramp up, pesky hip discomfort can put a damper on the things we love most. Ensuring we get varied movement helps keep our hip joints lubricated and feeling their best.
A drill we use frequently to help get varied movement for our hips on an ongoing basis is Hip Controlled Articular Rotations or Hip CARs for short. Hip CARs take the hip through its fullest range of motion, helping relieve aches and tightness.
Having hip discomfort can also make training more difficult, but utilizing single leg exercises to train the unaffected side can help continue to move you toward your goals. Single leg exercises allow each hip to work independently of the other to ensure your aches and pains don’t get worse.
Try hip CARs before your next outdoor activity or next lower body workout. Your hips will thank you!
