For the third year in a row, Fitness Together is proud to be the Official Health and Fitness Sponsor of “Step Out: Walk to STOP Diabetes” right here in Washington, DC on Saturday, October 20, 2012!
Over the past two years a dedicated group of Fitness Together studio owners, employees, clients and friends has raised over $65,000 for the “Step Out” walk organized by the American Diabetes Association. And this year, we’re at it again! Our fitness studios in the Washington, DC metro area—including the District of Columbia, Georgetown, Alexandria, Bethesda, Silver Spring, North Potomac, Fairfax, Tysons, Chantilly and Annapolis—have pledged to once again take up the banner to help the ADA in its tireless efforts to STOP diabetes.
Why are we getting involved? Our skilled and certified personal trainers, who offer the area’s premier one-to-one fitness, group training, nutrition, and education packages for clients, see the complications of diabetes every day. In many cases, we know it’s possible to prevent this disease from occurring, manage it when it does appear, and even eliminate the need for medication*. Numerous Fitness Together studios in the area have worked with diabetic or pre-diabetic children and adults. In some cases, they’ve helped clients lose over 100 pounds—and helped them keep the pounds off.
Fighting diabetes means “no gimmicks!”
At Fitness Together, we believe there are “no gimmicks” to getting healthy. The simple answer is you have to get off the couch, make exercise a daily routine, and get educated about a proper diet. The Fitness Together approach combines workouts, diet counseling, commitment and encouragement —and never includes fads, pills or gimmicks.
Are you ready to fight back?
Type 2 diabetes is on a steep rise in our country. Once affected by this disease, a person either does not produce enough insulin or the body’s cells ignore insulin, a crucial chemical that allows glucose to be converted to energy. Millions more will be diagnosed with diabetes if we don’t take action now. Ethnicities at high-risk of this disease include African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans and Asian Americans. Most symptoms start around the age of 45, but shockingly, Type 2 diabetes has been diagnosed in children as young as eight.
Whether you’re a Fitness Together client or not, and whether or not you have diabetes, come walk with us! We meet at the Washington Nationals Park and you can choose a route of between 2-4 miles, winding through the beautiful, historic neighborhoods of Eastern Market and Capitol Hill, including breathtaking views of the U.S. Capitol!
STOPPING diabetes STARTS with YOU… on October 20!
