Tale of the Tape
Spinach (1 Cup): 0g Fat, 1g Carbs, 1g Protein
Peas (1 Cup): 0.5g Fat, 21g Carbs, 8g Protein
Here we have Spinach taking on the darling of the tournament. Can I just say, simply looking at the Macronutrients, I love Peas here. Now I understand that Spinach’s macronutrient ratio is not to be messed with but in order to get as much Protein as the Peas, you’d need 8 Cups of Spinach and if you were to want to go for equal Carbs, goodness…you’d need 21 cups.
Both of these foods can be eaten every day, all day, at any time. However, Spinach doesn’t possess enough macronutrients to sustain you, which will ultimately be its undoing here. Spinach does have 22 vitamins & minerals to Peas 17 including 987% of your vitamin K! Which means it is a beast at keeping up your bone health. The added health benefits of both are almost identical outside of the bone health though. It should be noted Spinach also rates lower on the glycemic index.
In the end, Spinach would edge out Peas just barely in every other category but ultimately lose in the most important category which is the macronutrients; you just need more from a food than what Spinach offers.
Verdict: (8) Peas defeats (2) Spinach
