Tale of the Tape
Broccoli (1 Cup Chopped): 0.5g Fat, 6g Carbs, 2.5g Protein
Almonds (1 oz): 14g Fat, 6g Carbs, 6g Protein
First off, Broccoli may have one of, if not the best macronutrient ratio's across all foods. 63% Carbs, 26% Protein, 11% Fat, if there was slightly less Carb and a little more Fat it would be dead-on. Broccoli is an excellent source of vitamin C & K. Broccoli also helps fight cancer. It possess properties that help reduce inflammation, has antioxidant properties, and can enhance detoxification; all of which help in cancer prevention. Studies have also shown, eating raw Broccoli can help the health of the stomach and stomach lining.
Almonds are a good "healthy Fat," they tend to be on the lower side of Fat than most other nuts but they still have a high amount. It has been shown to lower LDL and reduce the risk of heart attack. It is a great source of vitamin E as well.
Both of these foods are fantastic in terms of health benefits, however, I will lean toward Broccoli on the basis of macronutrient ratio and the fact that while Almonds are great, people will often eat more than the serving size which can quickly become trouble.
Verdict: (2) Broccoli defeats (7) Almonds in a bout of GREAT "super" foods.
