Beans (1 Cup): 3g Fat, 121g Carbs, 42g Protein

Turkey (4 oz): 1g Fat, 0g Carbs, 34g Protein

Here we have one of the best Carb sources vs possibly the best protein source. This truly is a juggernaut of a match up. So for this matchup we will have to consider, is the Bean a better Carb, or is Turkey a better Protein. Beans have a solid ratio of Carbs, Proteins and Fats, whereas, Turkey is very much all in on Protein.

Beans make for a great meal by themselves or with a veggie but they lack all the amino acids to be considered a “Complete Protein,” which is why they are frequently eaten with rice, as rice contains the missing amino acids to complete said Protein. If you had Beans with a Protein, it would generally result in too many Proteins for the meal, at least for the bulk of our cliental.

Turkey can go well with just about any other Carb, it is so low in Carbs and Fats that it creates a lot of flexibility in meal planning. It’s also very high in Protein so you don’t have to worry about where else you have to get Protein when eating it.

I think both of these foods are fantastic and as we advance in the tournament we are really starting to split hairs on why one food will advance over another. Remember, this isn’t about which food is “better” than the other, it’s an opportunity to teach people about the foods they are, or should be eating. All 32 foods in the bracket should be staples in your diet.
