Having grown up in Herndon, VA, Joey now resides in Dunn Loring. Full of energy as a young man, he played a variety of sports, but discovered his talent for dancing in his late teenage years. Joey is a self-taught hip hop dancer since the age of twelve, however began studying ballet at the age of seventeen. He entered the George Mason School of Dance on scholarship, where he studied modern dance, ballet, choreography, anatomy, and other somatic techniques. During his undergrad years, he had the opportunity to perform incredible works by Kyle Abraham, Andrea Miller, David Grenke, Mark Morris, Nick Pupillo, and two works from Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s resident choreographic genius Alejandro Cerrudo. He has also traveled to various cities in recent years to study with dance companies in Philadelphia, Houston, and Chicago. He graduated in 2017, receiving the excellence in performance from George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Along with performing and training, Joey is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others, from the approach that proper alignment and technique are crucial to preservation of the body. He believes in straightening before strengthening, as well as returning proper alignment and efficiency to the body, and making these changes habitual. He received his certification through American Council on Exercise and looks forward to helping others achieve their fitness goals, no matter how vast or minute. Joey wishes to be an open ear and an open mind to others, hopefully being an inspiration with his unlikely story.
