Neuromuscular training focuses on performing exercises that train the nerves and muscles to react and communicate. Neuromuscular training programs are designed to both increase the strength of the knee joint and increase the individual’s awareness of proper balance and technique. The programs accomplish this goal by using a number of different exercises to train both the body of the individual as well as their conscious mind. Without neuromuscular ability it is difficult to balance, move, and maintain stability through the joints of the body.

Before we dive into what neuromuscular training is, lets understand the word itself. The word means nerves and muscles and how the muscles in the body contract as a result of the signals received from from the nerves that supply it.The idea behind this type of training is to train your muscle contraction in an intense, explosive way. When this is done properly you can increase the speed at which your muscle can respond and produce force. This action is important as with the quick response of your muscles you are able to stabilize your joints. You want to target the fast twitch fibers in your muscles and you do this by lifting heavy weights in an intense explosive manner.

Neuromuscular training is focusing on the brain controlling movement of the limbs. It is usually implemented after a traumatic injury to help prevent it from ever recurring. Most exercises consist of balance and landing techniques to help retrain the body while challenging concentration.
