I have some fantastic tan lines from my summer runs and workouts this year. I know tan lines may not be the “norm” for sexy, but what makes you feel sexier than being active? Physical activity has numerous health benefits, as you can read about here, and stimulates various brain chemicals that leave you feeling happier, also improving your self-esteem. That’s why I decided to embrace my tan lines this summer and show them off proudly! Unfortunately, summer is winding down and the endless sunlight we all like so much is disappearing pretty quickly. September seems early, but this is when we here at Fitness Together North End start revamping our workouts for the fall. No more sunshine filled morning runs or being able to get outside for a workout before it gets dark, so in our electricity filled studio we stay. It’s a great time to get serious about weight training for multiple reasons. Summer tends to be a time when many add some weight due to being more social. Running and aerobic exercise is a great way to burn fat and to improve your health, but just doing cardio alone will burn some muscle too! Any lean muscle you have should at the least be maintained, if not improved/added to. Adding more lean muscle allows you to burn more energy (calories) even while just sitting at work, keeps your metabolism at a higher rate, supports your musculoskeletal system (posture, movement, ect) and keeps fat off! But, one thing I must warn you about other than feeling stronger, more energized, happier, and even more sexy after your weight training workout is that you may form lovely little calluses on your hands. Mine form immediately after my first fall pull-up! I know calluses may not be the “norm” for sexy, but again what really makes you feel sexier than being active? Buy some weight training gloves, give us a call and meet callus season head on! You’ll thank us for it!
Goodbye tan line season; hello callus season!
