Finding Cardio where you wouldn't typically look

Derek Maxfield

I was speaking with a client recently regarding cardio.  The client had expressed to me how "boring" cardiovascular training can be.  When one usually ponders cardio training he or she thinks of the treadmill, elliptical, or maybe even the rowing machine.  Using one of the latter pieces of equipment would result in you being in position for an extended period of time, which ofcourse, can be very boring.

I then discovered somehting about myself - I cannot stand cardio training with those machine also!  It bored me to no end, just like many of my clients.  I then realized that I achieve my cardio by other means.  Personally, I enjoy bike riding and running outdoors.

Which took me back to the conversation with my client.  I listed numerous different activites that result in calorie burning and a challenge for your heart rate.  They included biking, running, jogging, brisk walking, yard maintenance (i.e. spreading mulch, mowing the lawn), swimming, and even playing with your children.  All of these activites result in atleast a moderate cardiovascular workout.

So when you ponder cardio - look somewhere you typically would not.
