What was your reason for starting at Fitness Together? If have been here for more than 5 years what keeps your coming back?
I have a discipline problem going to the gym by myself and working out. But it’s quite different going to FT. I really like the tailored approach to my workouts, which are just enough to be challenging and make me think sometimes out loud “Why do I do this” but then ultimately, I’m in such a better mood post workout. Recently I’ve experienced a shoulder issue and instead of just stop working out, FT has adjusted my routines so that it protects my shoulder but I can still get a good workout.
What has Fitness Together helped you with most? ( Helpful to reference what FT has helped with during last 3months)
No doubt the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted everyone, and routines have been upended and sometimes we just have to manage what we have control over. Although we’re not able to enjoy the fitness studio, the virtual workouts have been the one constant throughout all the life changes we’ve experienced. I still can count on a good workout 3 times a week and I know that will help me physically and mentally overcome the challenges we’re all facing.
How do you think you have most improved since starting with Fitness Together?
I’ve become physically stronger and my endurance has increased but I think what is most notable is how I value being physically active. My family history has high blood pressure and diabetes and even though I know working out helps mitigate these health conditions, I wasn’t always doing what I was supposed to do. I had a physical a few years back and the doctor was going through the usual questions that included level of physical activity. He said, “You know why you don’t have diabetes? It’s because you’re working out.” That was the incentive to always be active and FT has helped me with that goal.
How has Fitness Together helped you with your nutrition?
I’m much more aware of micro-nutrients and making sure I’m getting in the right amounts of carbs, fats and proteins throughout the day. I can’t say I’m totally disciplined all day every day but I’m much more keenly aware of what and when I’m eating.
What do you like the most about the staff or atmosphere?
I really miss going to the studio. It was that enjoyable mental and physical break in the day – no work email, no meetings, no deadlines. Instead it was just you and the trainer – and maybe the treadmill – getting in a good sweat. Plus it was total bonus that all the trainers are friendly and made the studio feel welcoming. Working out in my basement during the pandemic isn’t the most enjoyable but at least I get to train with FT and that makes the workout not so bad.
Do you have any funny or inspiring tales of Fitness Together antics?
I almost never tell the truth when asked about my nutrition for the day. I make something up but keep my poker face. What did you last eat today the trainer asks? I’ll try to come up with some weird combination like frozen pizza topped with fruit loops, fried chicken and ice cream sandwiches; hot fudge sundae and scrambled eggs; just a salad…with waffles and maple syrup. I enjoy watching them write that down. But seriously I look at the successes of other clients and use that as motivation to try and reach my own goals.
