Fresh for Your Picking

The summer’s harvest is ready for your sampling.  Apricots to zucchini fill Northeast Ohio’s local farmer’s markets. The delicious produce, full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, is just one reason to shop the open air markets. Protecting the environment is another.

According to the Countryside Conservancy a non-profit organization that helps re-establish farms in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, most food travels more than 1,500 miles from farm to plate, while locally grown food typically travels 50 miles or less. This reduces pollution, our dependence on fossil fuels, and protecting the environment. And, since the produce usually arrives in markets within 24 hours of being plucked from the vine - it’s much fresher and delicious.
