Getting the most out of your training

Posted By: Vicki Raynor on 04/04/2011

After my workout with Brad, one of my cute trainers, he began stretching me.  He asked if I had been stretching at home. I looked at him sheepishly and said “No!”
Brad looked at me, with his usual quiet demeanor.  So I said “What, at least I’m being honest with you.  I just don’t stretch that much at home.”

Why, he asked? I tell him it just doesn’t work as well when I do it myself.

“Yep, it works much better when you have someone else do it with you,” Brad says.

He’s right!  When I am stretched at the studio, I get so much more out of it. When I am at home, I tend to stop the second it starts to hurt. The same is true when I work out at home, I just don’t seem to be able to push myself as much as when I’m with my trainer at the studio.  I give myself some ‘slack,’ they only give me ‘slack’ when they know I really need it.

Just another reason why I love Fitness Together … I just can’t do it myself and get the same results that I get when I’m with my trainer.

Vicki Raynor, a Hudson, Ohio resident, trains three times a week with various trainers at the Hudson studio, located at 89 First Street. Vicki enjoys sharing her weekly training experiences with readers. She hopes to inspire and motivate other baby boomers to get active, live healthy and stay fit.

Side note:
If you are not already participating in daily exercise, here are a few good reasons to reconsider:

Osteoarthritis (OA) is on the rise. More than 27 million adults, 1 in almost every 10 American adults, have OA (1), a number expected to increase dramatically as the 78.2 million Baby Boomers age (2).

OA limits physical activity and complicates management of other chronic diseases such as diabetes or heart disease. And, many Americans with OA face chronic pain and functional limitations, which often result in job loss and reduced quality of life. Evidence shows that physical activity can reduce the symptoms and progression of OA. But, it must be the right exercise prescription because done incorrectly physical exercise may increase symptoms and disability.
