Apple Crisp on a diet!
Posted By: Kerri J on 10/20/2011
With apple picking season in full swing, we want to share a very simple and delicious recipe for a healthier version of apple crisp! Cutting out the typical refined sugar and flour drops both the total carb and sugar grams, and by using almond flour you add 4.5g of protein and more fiber to each serving. Hope you enjoy!
Ingredients:
(4 servings)
2 large or 3 medium apples
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup almond flour
1/4 cup melted light smart balance omega 3 butter spread
1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
Recipe:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
Mix together brown sugar, oats, almond flour, melted butter spread, and half a tablespoon of cinnamon in a bowl.
Place half of that mixture in the bottom of a small baking pan or dish. I use a 6in rectangle baking dish that works great.
Spread the sliced apples evenly over mixture, layering the slices and sprinkling the remaining cinnamon over each layer.
Top the apples with the remaining mixture.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until golden brown.
