For over three years, I was a member at a large chain sports club here in Boston. I would go and spend time doing cardio on a machine a few times a week. Sometimes I would even try to put together a weight routine for myself, but that would last maybe one or two sessions. And the overwhelming number of weight machines was too much for me to even contemplate an attempt at using them for a workout. Periodically a flyer would show up announcing a group class that sounded like it might be of interest to me. So, I would sign up and attend for the four week schedule. But, the next month, the schedule would change or the instructor would change, which provided the excuse I needed not to attend. That would leave me skipping the gym for weeks or even months at a time, all the while paying my monthly dues.
Finally, in January 2014, I was chatting with a friend who told me about the positive training experience he was having at Fitness Together South End, working with Jesse Kurisko. As it was the beginning of a new year, I made an appointment for a consultation visit with Jesse; the rest is history.
I have managed to drop 15 pounds of body weight, which is 75% of my weight-loss goal.* And, I can now fit into those shorts I purchased two years ago, which have been sitting on the closet shelf waiting for me to be able to wear them.
It essentially comes down to the fact that the Fitness Together philosophy of “One client, one trainer, one goal” is the sports club environment which works best for me. It has provided me with the motivation to keep working to reach my fitness goals and live a more healthy lifestyle. One of the most important things for me is that Jesse has the knowledge of the “how to...” and he provides the positive reinforcement for me to keep up a regular fitness regimen, both of which I lack on my own.
Additionally, helping me to evaluate and adjust my eating habits to assist in achieving my fitness goals is another area where the Fitness Together experience has been particularly helpful. While emphasizing the importance of the physical aspect of fitness, such as increasing my strength and improving my stamina, Jess is helping me realize the importance of diet within the grand scheme of a more healthy lifestyle and how it significantly contributes to reaching my fitness goals.
Seven months into this process, it’s been a particularly rewarding experience for me working with Jesse and the team at Fitness Together South End. Seeing such great personal results so far, for which I have Jesse to thank, keeps me returning each session. I appreciate the positive attitude and the “can do” work ethic that Jesse brings to each of my training sessions. I may even begin to enjoy my time at the “gym” if this keep up!
