Stop Starting Over Every Monday
Apr 24, 2026
There’s something about Mondays that feels like a fresh start. New week, new goals, new motivation. But here’s the problem: if you’re constantly “starting over” every Monday, you’re probably stuck in a cycle that’s holding you back from real progress.
This all comes down to the all-or-nothing mindset—and it’s one of the biggest barriers in health and fitness.
The All-or-Nothing Trap
The all-or-nothing mindset sounds like:
- “I missed a workout, so this week is ruined.”
- “I ate off track, I’ll just restart on Monday.”
- “If I can’t do it perfectly, what’s the point?”
It creates this idea that if you slip up even slightly, everything is lost. So instead of adjusting, you abandon the plan altogether and wait for a “perfect” restart.
But here’s the truth: progress doesn’t require perfection—it requires consistency.
Why Starting Over Keeps You Stuck
Every time you hit reset, you:
- Lose momentum you were building
- Reinforce the habit of quitting when things aren’t perfect
- Stay in the same cycle instead of actually progressing
Real life isn’t perfect. Work gets busy, plans change, energy fluctuates. If your routine only works under perfect conditions, it’s not a sustainable routine.
What to Do Instead
Instead of starting over, start adjusting.
Missed a workout? → Move your body the next day.
Ate off plan? → Get back to your normal meals at the next one.
Busy week? → Shorten your workouts instead of skipping them.
Consistency is built in the moments where it would be easier to quit—but you choose not to.
If you find yourself stuck in the cycle of starting over, it might be time for a different approach. Accountability, structure, and a plan that actually fits your life can make all the difference.
