'Tis the Season...For Fall 5k Runs, That Is!

The fall months can be a great time to start participating in local run events. Here's what's going on in the Baltimore area for September! 5k's can be a great way to stay active with friends and family as summer winds down and the months get cooler.

September 8th: Mercy Foot & Ankle 9/11 Run to Remember

The course will start at 7am in front of the 9/11 Memorial of Maryland at the World Trade Center on Pratt Street.

The Run to Remember Fund of the Baltimore Community Foundation which supports the Baltimore Police Foundation and Baltimore Fire Department.

Be a part of The 9/11 Memorial of Maryland to honor the extraordinary heroism, commitment and sacrifice of Maryland's 9/11 victims, survivors, rescuers, first responders and their families. The memorial will provide a special place of contemplation— a site to remember and to reflect upon the events of September 11, 2001. And it will pay special tribute to the 68 Marylanders who lost their lives that day.

September 15th: Fort McHenry 5K Tunnel Run/Walk

Participate in the Fort McHenry 5K Tunnel Run/Walk and take advantage of a rare opportunity to walk/run through this unique venue! A $25 donation registers you for the 5K; however, additional fundraising is encouraged to show your support of the thousands of Special Olympics Maryland athletes.

September 15th: Charm City Run Kids XC Series (Annapolis)

Sunday, September 15 at 3:30 p.m.
Annapolis Towne Centre, 1910 Towne Centre Boulevard

An introduction to racing series for boys and girls, 12 and under. This is a great way to introduce your kids to the world of running.

The first event will be held at the Annapolis Towne Centre, 1910 Towne Centre Boulevard, Annapolis, Md.; the second event will be held at Gilman School, 5407 Roland Ave., Baltimore, Md.; The third event will be held at Loyola Blakefield, 500 Chestnut Ave., Towson, Md.; and the fourth event will be held at Sparks Elementary, 601 Belfast Rd. Sparks, Md.

All participants will receive a ribbon, and the top three girls and boys in each age group will receive a medal.

September 21st: Diane Geppi Aikens Memorial 5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Walk

Diane's family and friends look forward to an outstanding event in honor of a courageous mother, coach and friend, an event we hope to continue for many years to come.In its eighth year, this event has drawn the support of the Baltimore community and is a highlight of the fall running season. Join Loyola Athletics for a morning of running, walking, fun and excitement!

Runners or walkers may also form teams for the Team Challenge. Enter your team of 10 or more for the race or walk to be eligible for a team prize. A team can be any type of group!

The course begins and ends on Loyola's Diane Geppi-Aikens Field with a run through the beautiful Guilford neighborhood.

Build morale and form a team from your senior center, company, church, family or friends. Being part of a team is fun! You’ll build camaraderie and community while raising much-needed funds for senior exercise classes and fitness centers in Baltimore County. Team members receive all the benefits of individual race participants plus early packet pick-up. We encourage you to wear T-shirts displaying your team/center/company name or logo on race day.

September 28th: Marian House Race to Embrace Independence 5K Run and Walk

An independent nonprofit organization located in the Better Waverly neighborhood of Baltimore City, Marian House provides housing and comprehensive support services to women who are homeless and/or recovering from addiction. We strive to help women move from dependence to independence.

September 29th: The Run Wild for Autism 5K and Family Fun Run

Sunday, September 29 at 8:30 a.m.
Maryland Zoo in Baltimore

The race will start and end at the zoo. The course will meander through Druid Hill Park after completing a loop through the zoo.

Thanks to a generous sponsor, individuals with Autism and their immediate family/team members will be offered access to the Zoo free of charge on race day. To receive passes, you must indicate on your registration form that you or someone in your family/team participating in the event is diagnosed with Autism. Zoo passes may be picked up on race day during registration (7-8:15 a.m.) at the Zoo's Main Gate or during the post-race activities (9-10 a.m.) in the Waterfowl Pavilion ONLY. Tickets will not be distributed after 10 a.m. Complimentary admission tickets WILL NOT be offered at the Zoo's main entrance.
