Pineapple-Basil Smoothie

 

INGREDIENTS

  • ¼cup, tightly packed, basil leaves
  • ¼ripe pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into chunks (about 6 ounces)
  • ¾cup plain kefir or yogurt
  • 1teaspoon honey
  • 1heaped tablespoon pistachios
  • ½teaspoon chia seeds
  • 2or 3 ice cubes

Nutritional information per serving (using full-fat kefir): 273 calories; 10 grams fat; 4 grams saturated fat; 3 grams polyunsaturated fat; 3 grams monounsaturated fat; 5 milligrams cholesterol; 40 grams carbohydrates; 4 grams dietary fiber; 84 milligrams sodium; 10 grams protein

PREPARATION

Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend at high speed for 1 minute, or until smooth. Serve.

 

Pear Smoothie With Spinach, Celery and Ginger

INGREDIENTS

  • ½cup washed spinach leaves (baby or bunch)
  • 1ripe pear, peeled, quartered, cored and cut in chunks
  • 1cup chopped celery
  • 1quarter-size slice fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1a handful of baby arugula
  • 2to 2 tablespoons mint leaves (to taste)
  • ½teaspoon chia seeds
  • ½banana (50 g), frozen if possible, sliced
  • 1teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1teaspoon honey or agave nectar
  • 1cup plain kefir or yogurt
  • 1or 2 ice cubes

Nutritional information per serving (using full-fat kefir): 345 calories; 9 grams fat; 5 grams saturated fat; 2 grams polyunsaturated fat; 2 grams monounsaturated fat; 5 milligrams cholesterol; 60 grams carbohydrates; 9 grams dietary fiber; 149 milligrams sodium; 11 grams protein

PREPARATION

Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend at high speed for 1 minute

 

 

Green Smoothie With Cucumber and Cumin

INGREDIENTS

  • 1cup kefir
  • ½cup chopped celery
  • 1cup chopped cucumber (seedless) (about 5 ounces)
  • 2tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • 1tablespoon fresh mint leaves
  • ½cup, tightly packed, greens such as kale, chard, spinach
  • 1quarter-size slice ginger, peeled
  • ½teaspoon chia seeds
  • ½teaspoon lightly toasted cumin seeds
  • 2teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1pinch of cayenne (more to taste)

Nutritional information per serving (using full-fat kefir): 220 calories; 10 grams fat; 6 grams saturated fat; 2 grams polyunsaturated fat; 2 grams monounsaturated fat; 5 milligrams cholesterol; 25 grams carbohydrates; 3 grams dietary fiber; 175 milligrams sodium; 12 grams protein
