Importance of staying Properly Hydrated

Drinking adequate amounts of water daily will help insure that your body is working efficiently. Water helps lubricate joints, maintain body temperature, remove wastes, and much more. Most people can use the rule of 8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day. However, if you are living an active lifestyle you may need more. In fact, up to 1 ounce per pound of body weight may be more appropriate. How do you know if you are drinking enough? Check your urine. If it is clear and pale yellow, you are getting enough. Don't count on thirst to guide you, especially as the weather heats up. You may get behind the "8 ball," and start to notice signs of dehydration such as fatigue and headache.
Here are some ways to insure you are getting enough H2O everyday:
1. Keep a refillable water glass or jug with you at all times.
2. If you are eating out, order water along with your other beverage.
3. Fruit juices (with no added sugar), milk, tea and coffee all count in your total. Just be sure to limit caffeine to 200-300mg daily or your will be increasing the diurectic effect.
4. Are you bored with plain water? Trying adding a slice of citrus! Lemon, lime or orange will give you a little hint of flavor.
