Fighting Obesity with the Help of a Personal Trainer in Johns Creek

Fighting Obesity with the Help of a Personal Trainer in Johns Creek

Russ Yeager - Personal Trainer Johns Creek

In a recent article that appeared in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, writer Helena Oliviero discussed some of the measures the state of Georgia is taking to battle childhood obesity. According to a 2011 report released by the Data Resource Center for Child and Adolescent Health, the childhood obesity rate in Georgia fell to 16.5 percent, which is an improvement from 2007's 21.3 percent. However, the same study also discovered that the percentage of children who are overweight jumped from 2007's 16% to 2011's 18.5%.

It is clear that more measures have to be implemented to curb the growing problem of childhood obesity in Georgia. Children that don't do enough physical activity or follow a healthy diet are more likely to develop medical problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. As their guardians, parents should set a good example for their children by following a healthy exercise and diet regimen with the help from a personal trainer in Johns Creek.

Oliviero went on to state that Georgia's kids are some of the heaviest in America, with a recent survey placing the entire state at the 17th spot for obesity and 3rd for overweight children. When both factors are accounted for, Georgia ranks at the 10th spot when it comes to childhood obesity problems. While the earlier study suggests that Georgia's childhood obesity rate is steadily decreasing, almost a million children in Georgia are either overweight or obese.

Fortunately, new exercise and nutrition programs are being introduced to Georgian elementary schools. Aside from introducing more fresh fruit into the children's diet, educators have added fun exercises into the school curriculum. Students at the Sope Creek Elementary School in east Cobb, for example, can start their mornings with Zumba dance classes, or choose a combination of outdoor exercises that include running, push-ups, and jumping rope.

The health and nutritional needs of parents differs from that of their kids. Luckily, it's easy to get personal training in Johns Creek from certified health clubs, with sessions that focus on cardio workouts and strength training. Health clubs in Johns Creek, Fulton County like Fitness Together also offers programs on nutrition as part of their personalized approach to fitness training.

These nutrition programs are conducted by certified nutrition coaches who educate participants on food portions and healthy food choices. Aside from setting a good example for their children by following exercise and nutrition programs, parents should also ensure that their children are eating nutritious meals. Parents should monitor their children's portion sizes, and avoid dining at fast food restaurants.

Parents should encourage their children to do more physical activities like taking walks and playing outdoor games with the neighborhood children, while at the same time limiting the amount of time their kids spend in front of the television or computer. Weight issues affect all age groups and demographics. By teaching their children to follow a healthy lifestyle from a young age, parents can give them a better quality of life.
