If you are looking to improve your diet with nutritious food, look no further. Here are eight simple tips to help you make healthy choices that will give your body the proper nutrition it needs.

    1. Vegetables. Let’s start with vegetables as the first nutritious food you should make a habit of eating. If you don’t like salad, don’t fret. There are many other ways to enjoy vegetables. Try them raw and cold, or grilled. Add them to a whole grain salad with cheese and spices. The possibilities for regularly adding vegetables to your diet are endless.

    2. Fruits. Fruit is healthy for you. Although higher in natural sugar and carbs, fruit remains a healthy and delicious option for nutritious food. While a banana won’t be the best choice for a diabetic, for anyone else a banana with breakfast is the perfect way to start your morning.

   3.  Lean protein. Nutrition is all about balance. Learn to make healthy eating choices, and eat in moderation. While you can still have your steak, choose a smaller portion, and indulge rarely. Instead, choose poultry as your lean protein for regular weekdays/nights.

    4. Whole grains. Whole grains are extremely important, so don’t cut out carbohydrates. Look for whole grains that are different to keep your nutritious food Johns Creek interesting. Whole grains like quinoa, barley, and brown rice keep your meals exciting, and keep you from overindulging on bread.

    5. Heart healthy fats. Eating heart healthy fats like avocado, peanut butter, and sunflower seeds, is good for you. Remember, eat in moderation. Fish like salmon and sardines are also a heart healthy fat, so try eating fish once or twice a week. Nuts in general provide heart healthy fat for nutritious food, so try munching on some nuts instead of candy.

    6. Portion size. When you are eating nutritious food, you might expect to lose weight. While you might be cutting out junk food, you are still going to take in a high number of calories--they will just be nutritious and good for your body, rather than bad. Controlling your portion size for anything is a wise habit to get into. Try using lunch size plates for serving yourself dinner, and pre-bag any snack items into a serving size amount to ensure that you are eating healthy, but losing or maintaining to a healthy weight.

    7. Fiber. Nutritious food should be rich in fiber. Fiber is important for keeping your digestive system on track. Fruit is a great way to get fiber, and many fruits that you leave the skin on to eat, like an apple, are very high in fiber. Whole grains can be another good way to get more fiber in your diet.

    8. Cut back. Cutting back on junk food, highly processed food, and sugary food is an important step to learning to choose nutritious food. Replace a morning donut with a piece of fruit, and opt for nuts instead of potato chips for a snack. Learn to make little changes in your diet until eating nutritious food is a habit.
