    Tiffany Bedsworth
    Fitness Together Changed Woman’s Life and Career Path

    Climbing the corporate ladder wasn’t the Tiffany Bedsworth's goal, when she first decided to get serious about losing weight, but it was definitely a rewarding consequence. For every pound lost, a little more confidence was gained, leading to career advancement, increased income, and recognition as a leader at the internet marketing firm where she works.

    Bedsworth has shed more than 60 pounds with the help of Gretchen Ruge, a personal trainer at the Fitness Together in Lees Summit, Mo. Even after moving to Indianapolis for her job, Bedsworth says Ruge’s advice and friendship has been so instrumental in her personal success, she is willing to commute 500 miles to keep that relationship intact.

    “I won’t lie, it’s been a challenge,” Bedsworth says. “I travel every single week and work 11-hour days most of time, but I try to watch what I am eating and I visit FT on the weekends I am in town. Just knowing that I have to see Gretchen makes me want to stay in shape and active because I don’t want to let her down.”

    Bedsworth wasn’t always so dedicated to exercising. She felt intimidated at traditional gyms.

    “The only machine I ever knew how to work was a treadmill and even then, there were always a bunch of supermodels running on the one right next to mine. Between their abs of steel and 7 MPH sprint, my two-mile stroll was embarrassing,” she says.

    She struggled with her weight for years, trying everything from Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers to Metabolic Research and diet pills, but couldn’t find the right long-term solution.

    “I hated the way I looked in my clothes, didn’t want to take pictures or look in the mirror, and barely would leave my house, except to go to work or to get something to eat,” Bedsworth says. “I wanted to go back to the basics of dieting and exercise – something I had never really tried. I made a decision to stop lying to myself, and for the first time, stop trying to do it alone.”

    In January 2014, Bedsworth spoke with Ruge at FT.

    “I went in and met with her and had more hope in that first meeting than I had in years,” Bedsworth says. “I felt like she really cared and she inspired me to commit to the process.”

    The two women immediately clicked.  They met three times a week for one-on-one sessions and Bedsworth started following some diet plans that Ruge laid out for her. 

    “Tiffany was insecure at first,” says Ruge. “I think the private setting was really good for her and made her feel more comfortable.”

    Bedsworth started to see changes in her body along with increased energy. She even looked forward to the new and fun workouts Ruge would plan, and she began walking two to three miles on the days she didn’t train at FT.

    By May 2014, Bedsworth had lost 52 pounds and could run four miles without stopping. She dropped eight pant sizes and wore a two-piece swimsuit for the first time.

    Despite her positive progress, Bedsworth hit a bump in the road when she was promoted and had to work one hour away from the Lakewood studio. She tried commuting so she could stay with FT, but it became too difficult and she stopped seeing Ruge. She started to backtrack on all the progress she had made. She tried working out at other gyms close by, but it wasn’t the same. A year later, she called Ruge back.

    “Tiffany and I have really become friends, and it’s that connection with a client that really works at FT,” Ruge said. “I felt if Tiffany was willing to make the commute, I was going to give her my all, and we started seeing results again.”

    When another promotion meant moving to Indiana a few months later, Bedsworth had learned her lesson. She didn’t want to give up on her workouts at Fitness Together.

    “She’s amazing,” adds Ruge. “She’s so competitive. You can see it in her work and workouts and that’s what makes Tiffany so successful. We now keep in regular contact by email or in texts, and I try to give her tasks so that she can keep accomplishing things … not too much, because her plate is really full and I don’t want to overload her.”

    What sets Fitness Together apart from other fitness studios is its commitment to work with its clients in a private one-on-one setting, offering a personalized fitness and nutrition program. For people like Bedsworth, it’s been life-altering in many ways.

    “Personal training can sound intimidating, unnecessary and expensive. It did to me anyway,” Bedsworth says. “Nothing is more important than your health and happiness. Don’t lie to yourself. There is no pill or diet that will fix your issue. You have to quit lying to yourself and ask for help! It is life changing, a necessity and worth every single penny. Go for a month! What do you have to lose?”

    Well, at least in Bedsworth’s case, more than 60 pounds.

    My name is Lauren Boulware. I’m a financial advisor in Minneapolis. I’ve been working out at FT in Maple Grove for about six months. I work out primarily with Logan in PACK and One one One Training Sessions.

    Since I started my training I’ve lost about 20 pounds and gained a lot of energy*. I’ve also been able to improve my diet as a result of the nutrition classes and consultations, which have made the weight loss easier.*

    I work long hours and have a lot of outside activities. I have more energy, which helps me to fit everything in. The workouts are also a wonderful stress reliever and I always leave FT in a good mood.

    My hobbies include reading, travel, and hiking/biking adventures. A recent family trip to Oregon included lots of great hiking in Portland, on the coast and in the mountains. The combination of being active and enjoying time in nature is something that I deeply enjoy.

    I have learned to value experiences more so than possessions, and to invest time and money in exploring my world with friends and family.  Fitness Together has helped me to improve my overall fitness, allowing me to have the stamina and confidence to enjoy new activities.  Since I started working out, I have added more activity to weekends and vacations.  Long bike rides, hikes and exploring new parts of a a city are now regular parts of my plans. 

    I've definitely improved my ability to focus, manage stress and troubleshoot since committing to working out.  I'd also add that PACK classes have added new friend into my life.  We support each other in not only fitness. but in other aspects of life as well.     Hello, my name is Gary Novit. I am very passionate about the importance of maintaining a heathy body. I believe the effect of one’s health directly impacts the level of satisfaction, confidence in self-image, as well as happiness and joy in a person’s life.  I have personally experienced losing those close to me simply caused by not living out a healthy physical lifestyle. This has instilled in me a strong desire to help others learn what a healthy lifestyle looks like and how to achieve it for themselves. I mirror the very same healthy habits I teach my clients in my own lifestyle by exercising, eating right, and running a few marathons here and there too.

    I have a fun, joyful, and down-to-earth personality which is reflected in my approach to training others in becoming healthier. I believe the best place to start towards that goal is meeting people right where they are at. I take personal assessments for each of my clients while listening intently to what important changes they desire. I help evaluate, implement, and maintain the best avenues to take to help them reach their personal health goals. I have a straightforward, realistic, and fun approach to personal training and love the reward I get in seeing my clients gain the success they set out for.

    I am very excited to meet those whom are motivated in gaining a healthier lifestyle in a fun and relaxed manner but also dedicated and egger to transform their lives.

    Aloha! My name is Lonn Iwashita and I am originally from Honolulu, Hawaii. I recently graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with a degree in Health and Fitness Promotion as well as received a minor in Exercise Science. I have also obtained my Personal Trainer Certification through the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

        Fitness has always been a part of my life through my involvement in a variety of sports. Through sports, I became passionate about all aspects of health as well as how the human body functions. I would always try to find out new training methods to find competitive gains to overcome any personal weaknesses. I had to find out what type of method was the most beneficial to me. From this I have learned over the years that everyone responds to health differently, both psychologically and physiologically, meaning, that there is not a set health or fitness plan that fits all people.

    My name is Janna Flermoen. Athletics has always been a big part of my life, I grew up with three older brothers that I was determined to keep up with. I am quite a bit younger than they are so I grew up watching them play hockey, football, and baseball. But, when we were at home it didn’t matter if they were playing football, hockey, wrestling, or performing tricks with their bikes, rollerblades, and skateboards. I was always right behind them!!! Nothing would stop me from trying to be like the “big boys”! As a child I played softball for many years, when I got to high school I switched over to hockey and track. Currently I am not participating in any sports, but every summer I run a handful of 5k’s. The summer of 2014 I ran The Electric Run, The Color Run, The Warrior Dash, and both of the Zombie Runs.

    I have completed my A.S. in Physical Education at NHCC, along with their Personal Trainer Certificate. Other certifications I have completed include;

    In the near future I will start attending Augsburg to complete their B.S. in Exercise Science.

    My interest in athletics, fitness, and wellness all began at a young age with the “Bigger, Faster, Stronger (BFS)” program. Since then, I have exposed myself to numerous other forms of exercise, such as: powerlifting, Olympic lifting, kettlebells, suspension trainers, stability balls, training ropes, interval training, plyometrics, agility etc. While playing two years of college basketball and participating in various volunteer programs at the University of St. Thomas, I discovered my passion for improving the lives of others. My goal is to significantly improve your life by helping you reach their physical goals with my fitness/nutrition knowledge and experience. I also hope to connect with you on a personal level and make a positive impact in your daily life!

    I recently completed an internship with Fitness Quest 10 in San Diego, CA. Every day I observed and helped train clients of all ages and abilities, including high school, college, and professional athletes. My internship experience provided me with the opportunity to learn from some of the best personal trainers in the industry including Fitness Quest 10 owner, Todd Durkin. Todd is well known in the fitness industry for not only training top level athletes (such as Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, etc.) but he's also a guru when it comes to helping the 'average Joe/Jane' reach their full physical and mental potential.

    After my internship was completed, I obtained an Exercise Science degree from Winona State University in Minnesota and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).  I also passed the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Health Fitness Specialist (HFS) exam, which allows me to work with individuals who struggle with medically controlled diseases such as high blood pressure, asthma or pulmonary problems, arthritis, and controlled heart conditions.

    My name is Steve Johnson. Exercise and fitness has played a major role in my life going back to elementary school. It all started with a trip I took to Chicago, where I would spend the summer with my cousin. The usual activities were in line for grade school age boys, little league baseball, summer camp, miniature golf, etc. However, I believe it was the night my uncle took us to go see “Conan the Barbarian”, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. I went home that night and performed what seemed like 1000 push-ups and sit-ups. I was sore for days! That created a fascination in exercise and fitness which later propelled me into a high school sports career competing in football, baseball, track and wrestling. I later moved on to play football at Fork Union Military Academy with future Heisman and NFL great Eddie George. I continued my football career at James Madison University, where I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. Over the years of working at Fitness Together, I’ve worked with hundreds of clients each with their own unique set of goals and abilities. I’ve worked with adolescence as young as 10 and adults well into their 80’s with goals ranging from fat loss, increased muscle mass, general fitness or just maintaining strength and coordination, as with one client I trained with cerebral palsy. Having worked with such a vast pool of clientele, I feel I’m able to draw upon a wealth of knowledge and experience to help you achieve your fitness goals.

    Justin Chenault, B.S. Exercise Science, NSCA-CSCS, CPT

    FITNESS CONSULTANT

    Justin has been with Fitness Together since September 2015.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in May of 2015. During school at UW-La Crosse, Justin was involved in the Olympic Weightlifting club and also supervised different Strength and Conditioning facilities across campus.  Justin is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the NSCA and loves to lift heavy.

    Throughout his life, Justin has always been active.  As a child he enjoyed running, climbing and also played basketball and football in middle school.  In high school, he began participating in the Physical Conditioning Program and learned the basics of weightlifting.  In his first years of college at Normandale Community College, Justin took an Exercise Science class and really enjoyed it.  Ever since that class, he has been pursuing his passion for physical fitness through both learning and constant practice.  He loves to provide people with the necessary tools for bettering their physiques and self confidence.  Justin really cherishes the ability to see a client adapt and improve upon themselves every day.

    Outside of work, Justin leads an active lifestyle through several different avenues.  He continues to enjoy hiking, recreational sports and focused weightlifting at his local gym. Apart from physical activity, he enjoys studying, writing and practicing music. He also loves to play percussion and discover new music to play and sing.

    By May 2014, Bedsworth had lost 52 pounds and could run four miles without stopping. She dropped eight pant sizes and wore a two-piece swimsuit for the first time.

    Despite her positive progress, Bedsworth hit a bump in the road when she was promoted and had to work one hour away from the Lakewood studio. She tried commuting so she could stay with FT, but it became too difficult and she stopped seeing Ruge. She started to backtrack on all the progress she had made. She tried working out at other gyms close by, but it wasn’t the same. A year later, she called Ruge back.

    “Tiffany and I have really become friends, and it’s that connection with a client that really works at FT,” Ruge said. “I felt if Tiffany was willing to make the commute, I was going to give her my all, and we started seeing results again.”

    When another promotion meant moving to Indiana a few months later, Bedsworth had learned her lesson. She didn’t want to give up on her workouts at Fitness Together.

    “She’s amazing,” adds Ruge. “She’s so competitive. You can see it in her work and workouts and that’s what makes Tiffany so successful. We now keep in regular contact by email or in texts, and I try to give her tasks so that she can keep accomplishing things … not too much, because her plate is really full and I don’t want to overload her.”

    What sets Fitness Together apart from other fitness studios is its commitment to work with its clients in a private one-on-one setting, offering a personalized fitness and nutrition program. For people like Bedsworth, it’s been life-altering in many ways.

    “Personal training can sound intimidating, unnecessary and expensive. It did to me anyway,” Bedsworth says. “Nothing is more important than your health and happiness. Don’t lie to yourself. There is no pill or diet that will fix your issue. You have to quit lying to yourself and ask for help! It is life changing, a necessity and worth every single penny. Go for a month! What do you have to lose?”

    Well, at least in Bedsworth’s case, more than 60 pounds.

    Lauren Boulware

    My name is Lauren Boulware. I’m a financial advisor in Minneapolis. I’ve been working out at FT in Maple Grove for about six months. I work out primarily with Logan in PACK and One one One Training Sessions.

    Since I started my training I’ve lost about 20 pounds and gained a lot of energy*. I’ve also been able to improve my diet as a result of the nutrition classes and consultations, which have made the weight loss easier.*

    I work long hours and have a lot of outside activities. I have more energy, which helps me to fit everything in. The workouts are also a wonderful stress reliever and I always leave FT in a good mood.

    If you want to finally get results in a fun environment, FT is the place for you. Logan and the other trainers are very knowledgeable about fitness, training, and nutrition and really care about your progress. They work to help you achieve your goals.*

    My hobbies include reading, travel, and hiking/biking adventures. A recent family trip to Oregon included lots of great hiking in Portland, on the coast and in the mountains. The combination of being active and enjoying time in nature is something that I deeply enjoy.

    I have learned to value experiences more so than possessions, and to invest time and money in exploring my world with friends and family.  Fitness Together has helped me to improve my overall fitness, allowing me to have the stamina and confidence to enjoy new activities.  Since I started working out, I have added more activity to weekends and vacations.  Long bike rides, hikes and exploring new parts of a a city are now regular parts of my plans. 

    I've definitely improved my ability to focus, manage stress and troubleshoot since committing to working out.  I'd also add that PACK classes have added new friend into my life.  We support each other in not only fitness. but in other aspects of life as well.     "Now that I am in my fifties I wanted to make a change to the way I was living and take my health more seriously. I want to be stronger and prevent those injuries and issues that can happen as I age and also allow me to stay in and maintain my home. And of course to lose some weight and look and feel better in my clothes."

    "Since coming to FT I can really see the changes in myself.  I feel stronger, my balance has improved and I have more energy.     Hello, my name is Gary Novit. I am very passionate about the importance of maintaining a heathy body. I believe the effect of one’s health directly impacts the level of satisfaction, confidence in self-image, as well as happiness and joy in a person’s life.  I have personally experienced losing those close to me simply caused by not living out a healthy physical lifestyle. This has instilled in me a strong desire to help others learn what a healthy lifestyle looks like and how to achieve it for themselves. I mirror the very same healthy habits I teach my clients in my own lifestyle by exercising, eating right, and running a few marathons here and there too.

    I have a fun, joyful, and down-to-earth personality which is reflected in my approach to training others in becoming healthier. I believe the best place to start towards that goal is meeting people right where they are at. I take personal assessments for each of my clients while listening intently to what important changes they desire. I help evaluate, implement, and maintain the best avenues to take to help them reach their personal health goals. I have a straightforward, realistic, and fun approach to personal training and love the reward I get in seeing my clients gain the success they set out for.

    I am very excited to meet those whom are motivated in gaining a healthier lifestyle in a fun and relaxed manner but also dedicated and egger to transform their lives.

    Fitness Together Personal Trainer

    My name is Janna Flermoen. Athletics has always been a big part of my life, I grew up with three older brothers that I was determined to keep up with. I am quite a bit younger than they are so I grew up watching them play hockey, football, and baseball. But, when we were at home it didn’t matter if they were playing football, hockey, wrestling, or performing tricks with their bikes, rollerblades, and skateboards. I was always right behind them!!! Nothing would stop me from trying to be like the “big boys”! As a child I played softball for many years, when I got to high school I switched over to hockey and track. Currently I am not participating in any sports, but every summer I run a handful of 5k’s. The summer of 2014 I ran The Electric Run, The Color Run, The Warrior Dash, and both of the Zombie Runs.

    I have completed my A.S. in Physical Education at NHCC, along with their Personal Trainer Certificate. Other certifications I have completed include;

    In the near future I will start attending Augsburg to complete their B.S. in Exercise Science.

    My interest in athletics, fitness, and wellness all began at a young age with the “Bigger, Faster, Stronger (BFS)” program. Since then, I have exposed myself to numerous other forms of exercise, such as: powerlifting, Olympic lifting, kettlebells, suspension trainers, stability balls, training ropes, interval training, plyometrics, agility etc. While playing two years of college basketball and participating in various volunteer programs at the University of St. Thomas, I discovered my passion for improving the lives of others. My goal is to significantly improve your life by helping you reach their physical goals with my fitness/nutrition knowledge and experience. I also hope to connect with you on a personal level and make a positive impact in your daily life!

    I recently completed an internship with Fitness Quest 10 in San Diego, CA. Every day I observed and helped train clients of all ages and abilities, including high school, college, and professional athletes. My internship experience provided me with the opportunity to learn from some of the best personal trainers in the industry including Fitness Quest 10 owner, Todd Durkin. Todd is well known in the fitness industry for not only training top level athletes (such as Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, etc.) but he's also a guru when it comes to helping the 'average Joe/Jane' reach their full physical and mental potential.

    After my internship was completed, I obtained an Exercise Science degree from Winona State University in Minnesota and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).  I also passed the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Health Fitness Specialist (HFS) exam, which allows me to work with individuals who struggle with medically controlled diseases such as high blood pressure, asthma or pulmonary problems, arthritis, and controlled heart conditions.

    My name is Steve Johnson. Exercise and fitness has played a major role in my life going back to elementary school. It all started with a trip I took to Chicago, where I would spend the summer with my cousin. The usual activities were in line for grade school age boys, little league baseball, summer camp, miniature golf, etc. However, I believe it was the night my uncle took us to go see “Conan the Barbarian”, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. I went home that night and performed what seemed like 1000 push-ups and sit-ups. I was sore for days! That created a fascination in exercise and fitness which later propelled me into a high school sports career competing in football, baseball, track and wrestling. I later moved on to play football at Fork Union Military Academy with future Heisman and NFL great Eddie George. I continued my football career at James Madison University, where I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. Over the years of working at Fitness Together, I’ve worked with hundreds of clients each with their own unique set of goals and abilities. I’ve worked with adolescence as young as 10 and adults well into their 80’s with goals ranging from fat loss, increased muscle mass, general fitness or just maintaining strength and coordination, as with one client I trained with cerebral palsy. Having worked with such a vast pool of clientele, I feel I’m able to draw upon a wealth of knowledge and experience to help you achieve your fitness goals.

  • Justin Chenault

    Justin Chenault, B.S. Exercise Science, NSCA-CSCS, CPT

    FITNESS CONSULTANT

    Justin has been with Fitness Together since September 2015.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in May of 2015. During school at UW-La Crosse, Justin was involved in the Olympic Weightlifting club and also supervised different Strength and Conditioning facilities across campus.  Justin is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the NSCA and loves to lift heavy.

    Throughout his life, Justin has always been active.  As a child he enjoyed running, climbing and also played basketball and football in middle school.  In high school, he began participating in the Physical Conditioning Program and learned the basics of weightlifting.  In his first years of college at Normandale Community College, Justin took an Exercise Science class and really enjoyed it.  Ever since that class, he has been pursuing his passion for physical fitness through both learning and constant practice.  He loves to provide people with the necessary tools for bettering their physiques and self confidence.  Justin really cherishes the ability to see a client adapt and improve upon themselves every day.

    Outside of work, Justin leads an active lifestyle through several different avenues.  He continues to enjoy hiking, recreational sports and focused weightlifting at his local gym. Apart from physical activity, he enjoys studying, writing and practicing music. He also loves to play percussion and discover new music to play and sing.
