Personal Training Potentially Covered by Your Health Savings Account & Flexible Spending Account
Medical Necessity Requirement
-
HSA and FSA funds can only be used for personal training and fitness expenses deemed medically necessary by a licensed health care provider.
-
Personal training must be prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider (e.g., doctor, physical therapist) to treat or prevent a specific medical condition (e.g., obesity, diabetes, heart disease, or post-injury rehab).
-
The provider must write a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that:
- States the medical condition.
- Recommends personal training as treatment.
- Specifies a duration for the treatment.
- Check with your HSA/FSA administrator regarding any questions and to confirm eligible expenses and documentation requirements.
Fitness Together does not evaluate a client's services or situation to determine eligibility for Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) reimbursement. Clients are responsible to determine if they have met the eligibility requirements, to obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity, and to monitor their continued eligibility to submit charges to their HSA/FSA. Clients should review any questions regarding their HSA/FSA with their HSA/FSA administrator.
