Exercisers should get some nourishment within 30 minutes of finishing their exercise, especially if it was weight training. The question is what type of nourishment is best??? The answer is protein! The Benefits of Eating Protein After a Heavy Workout
Protein is the building block of all the muscles in the body. Here are basic uses of protein in our body.

Healthy Carbs Before You Workout, Protein After
Be sure to eat foods comprised of healthy carbs before you start working out. This is so that the body has the energy, in the form of glucose, to support your training. Fruit, veggies, oatmeal, brown rice, and sweet potatoes are all great sources of high quality carbohydrates that can be eaten 30-60 minutes prior to your exercise.
But after the workout, it’s time for repair and rebuilding, and protein is what does this job. Be sure to eat protein rich foods, for a meal (breakfast or dinner), or a protein shake within 30 minutes of finishing your routine. Foods like oily fish, green leafy vegetables, lean meat cuts and egg whites are excellent whole foods to replenish the protein requirements in your body.
So there are big time benefits of eating protein after a workout if you want to repair and rebuild your muscles after a workout.
