As Labor Day comes and goes and we unofficially say goodbye to the summer season, it can actually be a great time to refocus on yourself! As our time of leisure and fun in the sun comes to a close and we get back to our "regular" routine, there's no better time to get fit and enjoy everything the Fall has to offer! Below are few ways you can use the Fall to jumpstart yourself into a healthy routine!
1. Get outside! I know. It's no longer in the 70's, 80's and 90's, but that doesn't mean we have to be stuck inside! The cool, crisp air can be quite refreshing and give you several opportunities to still get outside and be active. Try going for a light jog, adventurous hike or take a walk along a nature path. All of these options will keep you away from being stuck inside sitting (not burning calories) and overeating out of boredom!
2. Speaking of eating...the Fall has several great nutritional options that come with the season. Pumpkins are for much more than just carving! Try the healthy recipes here for some unique options for your taste buds! Apples are also in season. Explore the different varieties in a new recipe or have them right off the tree! Pecans in moderation are another great option! They provide many vitamins and minerals that some people are deficient in such as magnesium, zinc, vitamin b6, thiamine and potassium - just to name a few!
3. Start a fitness program! As our regular routine gets back into full swing, it's a great time to get serious about your fitness plan. It becomes challenging to maintain a healthy lifestyle as we approach Halloween (candy), the Thanksgiving Day binge and the indulgent December Holidays. Build your routine now and start the New Year with a "Continuation" instead of a "Resolution"! And we promise. Summer will return! :-)
