Find an Accountability Partner and Never Stray from Your Fitness Track

Jan 28, 2021

Psychology is a kick, isn’t it? Did you know? If you make a promise to another person, telling them that you will complete a project or commit to a certain course of action – you are far more likely to follow-through.

Let’s face it – excuses are so easy to come up with. Left to our own vices, talking ourselves out of a trip to the fitness studio so we can binge watch the latest Netflix hit doesn’t take much convincing or conniving. But collaborating with someone who is equally invested in your success ultimately makes missing an appointment or session exponentially more difficult. It’s all a matter of respect and expectation.

That’s where accountability partners come in (and why the concept is so popular). These personal gurus help you identify and define your goals for particular area of your life – be it fitness, business, or conquering a nasty habit – and then work with you to develop a roadmap to pursue and accomplish said goals. Your accountability partner makes certain you stick to your plan, every step of the way, via continuous communication, constructive feedback, and regular check-ins.

Your accountability partner can be a coach, a close friend, a mentor, or a personal trainer – but whatever the case may be, they must be completely forthright and honest with you, even brutally so if physical fitness is the aim.

At Fitness Together Ellicott City, each of our certified personal trainers serve as accountability partners for our clients. Together, trainer and trainee achieve stellar results using a proven series of steps.

  • Planning the work, working the plan: Following enrollment, your fitness coach/accountability partner will help you design a custom plan that addresses your specific health profile and personal needs. With each visit, he or she will make any necessary adjustments and tweaks, while helping you stay the course using instruction, discussion, and motivation.
  • Keeping your eye on the (exercise) ball: Every six weeks, you will have a formal assessment with your Fitness Together personal trainer. Here, your trainer will take circumference measurements of your body on your waist, hips, neck, chest, arms and thighs to check for progress. Heart rate and pulse will also be monitored, and your accountability partner will present you with a series of moderate challenges, from timed push-ups to weightlifting evaluations, and more. It’s all about seeing how far you’ve come, and how far you have left to go to reach your short and long-term goals.
  • Tracking your food intake: Nutrition will also factor into your assessment, and Fitness Together’s nutritionally trained specialists will review your meal log (yes, you should have one) and help you make any necessary adjustments.

Think of your Fitness Together accountability partner as a personal promise manager of sorts. When you become a member of our fitness studio – you make a commitment. Several, actually. Obviously, you agree to a set fee for services rendered, and you enter into an unspoken agreement to show up on time, ready to put in the work and effort to maximize our trainers’ time and expertise. Most of all, you make a promise to yourself to pursue a healthier lifestyle, and to put your best foot (and hand, and hips, and head – and, without a doubt, heart) forward while pursuing that goal. Our trainers are ready and willing to help you stick to that promise, and our track record with clients is impeccable. If you’re ready to get started, reach out to us today.
