Advice from Your Fitness Trainer & Physician Goes Together

Sep 30, 2021

Some quick advice from your fitness trainer: listen to your doctor.

And then, of course, heed the knowledgeable recommendations of your personal trainer.

Just like love and marriage and peanut butter and chocolate, advice from your fitness trainer and your physician are two great things that go great together.

Annual checkups and regular health maintenance can keep you out of the hospital – or worse. In the same vein (pun intended), making smart, healthy, and consistent fitness choices – such as a balanced, nutritious diet and a professionally curated workout regimen – can keep you out of the doctor’s office in the future due to injury or other ailments (while also keeping lofty medical bills at bay).

It is absolutely essential to establish a proactive health plan as we age. And professional advice from your fitness trainer and physician should be weighed in equal measure as we work toward healthier bodies.

Most physicians recommend regular, moderate exercise for their patients, with few exceptions. And because your family doctor is familiar with your comprehensive health history, it is always a good idea to consult them whenever you are considering launching a new regimen or making changes to your existing routine, particularly if you are upping the ante.

Of course, one of the most basic, beneficial forms of exercise – walking – is believed to be relatively safe for most people, but consider placing a call to your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Heart disease and/or high blood pressure
  • Diabetes (Type 1 or 2)
  • Kidney disease

It is critical as we work out and pursue a more fit lifestyle that we are continuously making healthy choices. Striking the balance between exercise, nutrition, routine health screenings, and regular checkups are all part and parcel of that healthier lifestyle we crave. Your family doctor and your fitness trainer both want the best for your body, mind and – yes – soul. So, seek their counsel in advance, follow their lead, and start living healthier today.
