3 Tips When Gifting a Personal Training Session

Dec 25, 2021

Gifting a personal training session can be a unique way to show a loved one that you understand them, care for them, and want them to achieve a healthier lifestyle that will keep them around for a long time.

Unlike a waffle iron or a necktie, a personal training session is a gift that carries several considerations that should be made before the big day. For one thing, it’s not easily returned or exchanged. For another, it could potentially be misinterpreted as a criticism. And, of course, there’s always the significant issue of scheduling.

Still, gifting a personal training session is frequently a novel and appreciated idea amidst a sea of gift cards, cooking utensils, and regifted scented candles. Before purchasing, however, you will want to put some careful thought into the best approach.

Here are three festive tips:

  1. Make a list and check it twice: When gifting a personal training session, it’s best to do your homework in advance. Talk to your local personal training center about options that might be best for your friend or family member. Share basic information such as their fitness level, experience with personal training and exercise, health status, and personality.
  2. Give quality: There’s no delicate way to put this – don’t skimp on the trainer. In other words, when gifting a personal training session, you want to provide the most comprehensive and well-rounded experience for the giftee, particularly if this is all new to them. And as we’ve mentioned previously, not all personal trainers are created equally. Steer clear of trainers that only specialize in one area of fitness. Find a studio that employs certified professionals who are not only knowledgeable, but have also been vetted previously by respected associations such as The American Council on Exercise (ACE), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), or the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
  3. Spoil the surprise: We know. No one likes the idea of peeking at the presents before Christmas day, but when gifting a personal training session – you may want to drop a few hints along the way about your plan. For one thing, it is critical to consider any health concerns or limitations the recipient may have (former injuries or chronic conditions), and you may not know that unless you have a true heart-to-heart. It may also very well be that, despite your best intentions, the giftee just simply does not have the time or the interest in taking up a commitment such as personal training at this time. It’s best to know that before signing up. But perhaps the best reason to spill the fitness beans before the holidays is that it will allow you the future fitness enthusiast to do some preliminary holiday shopping and find the perfect personal trainer for the job.
