3 Reasons Why Personal Trainer Workouts Shouldn’t Scare You

Some people shiver and shake because of Halloween staples like black cats, vampire bats, and things that go bump in the night.

But many others get goosebumps when they see tracksuits and elliptical machines.

Here are three of the most common fears associated with personal trainer workouts – and the reasons they shouldn’t scare you at all:

  • Cost – Terrified that a fitness commitment might suck your wallet dry faster than a Transylvanian Count drains an unsuspecting villager? As “Dracula” author Bram Stoker once wrote, “Though sympathy alone can't alter facts, it can help to make them more bearable.” In other words, we’re sorry to say – personal trainer workouts aren’t exactly cheap. A true investment in your physical fitness isn’t going to be as economical as, say, buying a workout video and a diet soda – but that’s because it truly is an investment – in your body, your betterment, your future. There’s no question that budget can make or break a lot of decisions, however.
  • Criticism – Beware… Insecurity is a nasty and unrelenting fiend, poised to sink its fangs into your willpower at a moment’s notice and infect you with thoughts of inadequacy and surrender: “People will be watching me, evaluating me, or – worse - pitying me,” or “What if my trainer openly ridicules me in front of everyone?”

We’ve got news for you – almost everyone that is working out at the studio is wrestling with the exact same thoughts and concerns, and because of that – not a soul is giving a second thought to your performance.

It is true – your personal trainer is taking note of your every move. But here’s the difference: That’s his or her job, as is making you feel better about your physique, not worse. An introductory consultation with your trainer might reveal some deep, dark truths about the scary things in your refrigerator, but that’s all part of vanquishing bad habits and replacing them with good choices.

  • The Unknown: So, do you stand a ghost of a chance? That’s the question that will ultimately loom like a dark specter over your best intentions… The imagination is a wondrous thing, and can actually be a phenomenal tool for those attempting to lose weight and create a healthier life for themselves and their families. However, when a person’s imagination runs wild, it can conjure fears that are as crippling as they are irrational.

People often worry about injury, insults, and their own abilities – but most, if not all, of these worries are part and parcel of one particular fear that can paralyze even the staunchest of athletes – the fear of failure.

But consider this: If you’re reading this blog, effectively researching the benefits of , then you’ve already taken the most pivotal step towards success. You have expressed a desire to change your life for the better. And like arming yourself with a stake against vampires, or silver against werewolves, that realization is the only weapon you’ll ever need to overcome every obstacle and fear you face on the road to physical fitness.

Just don’t overdo it with the candy this Halloween.
