2014 has arrived, and with the dawn of a New Year comes the need to make good some New Year's resolutions. Achieving physical fitness─ preferably with the help of a Dunwoody personal trainer ─ is a typical goal, and if you pursue it, you will want to be informed of fitness trends for the New Year. To that end, the results of an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) survey by Walter R. Thompson, PhD reports on some popular fitness trends for 2014:
2. Body Weight Training
[...] Body Weight Training uses minimal equipment, which makes it an inexpensive way to exercise effectively. Most people think of body weight training as being limited to push-ups and pull-ups, but it can be much more than that. As the no. 3 position suggested last year, Body Weight Training may be a trend to watch for the future.
5. Exercise and Weight Loss
Commercial weight loss programs have been trying to infuse a regular exercise program into their caloric restriction diets. Most of these well-publicized diet plans incorporate exercise into the daily routine of providing prepared meals to their clients. [...] It appears as though people who are in the business of providing weight loss programs will continue to incorporate regular exercise as well as caloric restriction for weight control.
Ranking at No. 10 came yoga, a form of alternative exercise adapted from Indian spiritual practices that combines body postures, meditation, and more to improve balance, depth perception, mood, and general well-being. It is typically practiced by itself, though hybrid fitness systems such as Yogilates (yoga and Pilates) and Yoga with Weights (yoga and weightlifting) combine its techniques with those of other fitness routines to make a more well-rounded overall system.
Last but not least on the ACSM's findings came boot camp. Named after military-style basic training (though not necessarily patterned after them), boot camp incorporates cardiovascular exercise with aerobics, calisthenics, and more for a full-body workout. The element of interaction with other participants also helps to raise confidence and motivation, allowing one to potentially leave the boot camp a better person not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
Now that you've read up on what's going to be fitness-trendy this year, how about finding a reputable Dunwoody fitness center like Fitness Together Dunwoody and getting into shape? The professional personal trainers at such facilities will sure sit down with you, take your needs into account, and come up with the program that works best for you. They will design a program that is tailored to your lifestyle and fitness needs. That is why they call it “personal training”. How's that for keeping your New Year's resolution?
