Top Five Reasons to Keep Working Hard on Your Diet and Exercise

Ladies, this week it’s all about you.  Today happens to be National Women’s Health and Fitness Day, and it’s a great opportunity to take stock of your fitness goals, and evaluate how well you’re doing with reaching them.  Do you still have your original goals in sight, or have they gone by the wayside as is often the fate of healthy ambitions? 

 

Just on the off-chance that you might need a little renewed inspiration and motivation, we have the TOP FIVE reasons to keep working hard with your diet and exercise, just for you women who need a little autumn pep talk.  You know, before the weather gets cold and the Halloween candy starts calling your name.   

 

  1. Your future.  True, your 20-years-in-the-future self doesn’t really care what you look like in your skinny jeans today.  However, there are so many other parts of you that will benefit then from the work you do now.  The weights you lift and squats you do with your trainer are helping to build your bone mass, which will do wonders to ward off osteoporosis and broken bones as you age.  Also, the more muscle mass you build up now will mean more muscle mass later (after all, don’t you want to be a “little old lady” who can still hold her own in situations requiring physical strength and stamina?).   

  1. Your anxiety level.  It’s a safe guess that your life isn’t getting any less stressful, right?  As much as you’d like things to simplify, slow down, and, just maybe, for certain loved ones to gain a little independence, it hasn’t happened yet, and it ain’t happening soon.  We love that exercise is a pill-free stress buster, and one that simultaneously promotes the release of feel-good hormones.  Let your exercise regimen go, and you let some of your “sweat therapy” go, too. 

  1. Your swagger.  How great do you feel about yourself after a good, sweaty workout?  It’s true that exercise increases your self-esteem and self-confidence.  Also, in 2013 Health Psychology reported a study finding that participants rated themselves as having a higher satisfaction with their lives on days that they were more active.   

  1. Your productivity.  You know how a puppy always behaves better after it’s had a good romp in the park?  Not that you need to go around chasing squirrels, but there’s good logic behind this.  When we exercise, we connect our mind and body in a unique way, and at the same time releasing the aforementioned stress, making us that much more effective at our jobs, our chores, and at interacting with loved ones.   

  1. Your memory.  Believe it or not, exercise can help you remember things more efficiently, be it appointment times, peoples’ names, or where you last saw your sunglasses.  Working out can increase the production of cells in your hippocampus, which is the area responsible for learning and memory.   

 

On this National Women’s Health and Fitness Day, we celebrate our women clientele and the joys, challenges, and triumphs you bring to the studio.  Cheers to you, with hopes that you continue to be excited and energetic about your own fitness and health.  Keep your goals in sight, and keep striving to reach them.  You can do it, and you’re worth it.
