How to Finish the Year Strong

Oct 16, 2019

There are less than 90 days until the end of the year. Let that sink in for a minute.

While the impending approach of the holidays is often a time when people let their health and wellness routines slide a bit, we actually think now is a great time to revisit your goals and make a plan to finish the year strong.

Wouldn’t it feel amazing to head into next year further along than you were in year’s past? The best way to do that is to keep up your momentum and work toward what you want to achieve.

But how can you do that? Let’s break it down …

Review your goals, prioritize and keep them where you can see them.

Pull out your goals from the beginning of 2019, read them out loud, and highlight the top two or three that you want to ensure that you achieve. How do you choose which ones? Figure out which two or three goals would make the biggest difference in your life. Those are the ones you want to work on. Place the written goals on your fridge, on your mirror, on your desk at work — wherever you will see them regularly, and remind yourself that little steps go a long way, so make the best decisions you can on a daily basis to stay committed.

Outsource, outsource, outsource.

Outsource non-essential tasks to free up your time for workouts, rest and food prepping or food shopping. Part of the problem of the holiday season is all of the stress of commitments, like parties, preparing Christmas cards, shopping for gifts and booking travel arrangements. It’s totally worth a little extra investment in delegating to others so you can focus on your goals. Could you order your Christmas cards pre-addressed? Could you find some help on TaskRabbit to complete your gift shopping? Could you consider a healthy meal delivery service to provide balanced lunches and dinners during your busiest weeks? Whatever it is that will free up your time and mental capacity to keep working toward your goals, do it. You’ll thank yourself later.

Get a clear perspective on time.

While it may seem like the last three months of the year go by in a blur and can be lumped together as a “loss,” it’s important to remember that three months actually makes up 25 percent of the year. That’s a significant portion. Thus, it can’t be written off. We suggest changing your thinking around the end-of-year as a season to relax and kick back, and instead consider it just another part of the year, with a few more festive events thrown in.

Focus on the basics.

If you aren’t sleeping enough, making time for self-care, eating whole foods that give you energy or moving your body regularly, you’re not going to be in a very good place for achieving your goals at all. Now is the perfect time to add some more fresh organic produce to your plate, schedule an extra workout each week and get to bed earlier too. Your body and mind need all the support you can give them during this time of year through a balanced lifestyle, covering all the basics.
