Joe & Jill Thiel


With over 40 years of combined fitness experience, we're ready to help you succeed with your health and fitness goals.

Joe Thiel

Owner/Certified Personal Trainer

Joe's extensive background in fitness and his passion for helping others achieve their physical best have positioned him as one of the most sought after personal trainers in the Midwest.

Fitness Together is an expansion of his former company, BodyCare Associates, allowing him to train more people, empowering them to quickly and efficiently reach their fitness goals regardless of their age or current physical condition.Joe graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education, where he accepted a graduate assistantship specializing in exercise physiology and nutrition. While at Bowling Green he taught undergraduate classes, served as assistant director of the Human Performance Laboratory and Cardiac Rehab Program, and directed the Adult Fitness Program. Joe's experience also includes teaching high school physical education classes and coaching basketball at Canadian Bible College while completing a Master of Divinity degree at Canadian Theological Seminary.

Jill Thiel

Owner/Certified Personal Trainer

Jill's passion for fitness began at an early age. She competed in dance and gymnastics starting in her pre-teen years, and continued involvement in organized sports through her college years.

Jill graduated from Bowling Green State University with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education. She has taught gymnastics, swimming, aerobics and has special training in Pilates principles. She enjoys learning and experimenting with new approaches to fitness. This has been key to her ability to adapt to the needs of a wide range of clients, from teenagers to mature adults.

As the mother of two children and grandmother to a toddler, (not to mention being Joe's wife)…Jill knows the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle. She brings enthusiasm and dedication to helping our clients succeed in reaching their goals.

Adam Saathoff

B.A. Physical Education, Certified Personal Trainer

Adam has had a passion for fitness for as long as he can remember. His desire to share that passion with others led him to pursue a degree in Physical Education from Blackburn College, which he earned in 2001. His athletic endeavors include St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention (1998) and First Team All-Conference (1999) in football. He also worked for the Athletic Department at Blackburn as an Athletic Trainer, and served as Assistant Coach for the Blackburn College Football team. He is a weight and conditioning specialist and has a coaching authorization from the American Football Coaches Association.

Adam worked with the Jacksonville School District teaching elementary and middle school health and physical education classes from 2001-2004. He was the Jump Rope for Heart Coordinator (2001-2004) and served as Fitness Advisor for the "Steps of Change" program at the SIU School of Medicine in 2004, a program designed to help the morbidly obese incorporate physical activity into their lifestyle.

Adam has a special interest in designing functional training programs for his clients, helping them to achieve greater core stability and more efficient results towards their fitness goals. Adam says his personal mission "is to reduce the overwhelming epidemic of overweight and obese Americans. I plan to reduce the 75% of 'out of shape' adults and adolescents. I will restore the fun and vitality in fitness that was once there."

Jim Serra

ACE Certified Personal Trainer

Born and raised in Springfield, Jim joined the fire department in 1978 where he served until 2006 when he retired as a Battalion Chief. Jim also started working out in 1978. At that time he weighed a “hefty” 135 pounds! After years of faithfully adhering to an exercise regimen, Jim now weighs in at 175 pounds and considers himself to be in the best shape of his life.

Experiencing the benefits of exercise in his own life led Jim to want to help others do the same. He became an ACE Certified Personal Trainer in 2006 and joined the Fitness Together team of fitness professionals in 2007.

Jim is committed to the success of his clients, evidenced by his passion to learn all he can about fitness and nutrition, attending conferences, workshops and through independent study. He is always eager to share his knowledge, empowering his clients to take the next step on the road to health and fitness.

Cody Kother

Bachelor of Science, Certified Personal Trainer

Cody began his athletic career training in the back woods of his father’s farm. He would run the hilly terrain, doing pull-ups from trees, mastering pushups, and making up his own form of training equipment.

This hardcore training philosophy and creativity helped to make him a successful athlete and inspired his passion for physical fitness.

Cody was invited to the ESP Soccer Camp, made up of the top 150 high school players in the country and was awarded the “Golden Boot” award. He became a member of the ODP All-American Team in 200l and received a scholarship to play with Bradley University’s nationally-ranked soccer team where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a four year starter, team captain and is the current career assists record holder. He also was a member of the Missouri Valley all conference tournament team.

Cody went on to play semi-pro soccer for the Des Moines Menace. He ranked 3rd on the team in season points and led the post season scoring, helping to take the Menace to a National Championship. The Menace also reached the 4th round of the U.S. Open Cup, losing to the eventual MLS Champion Kansas City Wizards. Cody currently plays soccer for the Springfield Spirits.

Theresa Meadows

Certified Personal Trainer

Theresa is a busy mother of six children! She has made fitness a regular part of her lifestyle since age 19 when she began step aerobics, gradually progressing to resistance training with machines, then free weights and stability training. Theresa says, “I love the challenges of getting back into shape after each child birth!” Besides managing a busy household, Theresa has had a few other obstacles along the way, including some knee problems – but none of this has kept her from achieving her fitness goals. “Fitness keeps me alive, energetic and youthful.”

It is this passion that drives Theresa to help others experience the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and led her to pursue a career as a certified personal trainer. Theresa brings a wealth of experience working as a trainer in various health clubs and homes in the Springfield area. Skilled with clients of all ages and fitness needs, Theresa has a unique (and personal) insight into the issues facing women with regard to pregnancy (pre and post-natal)! She brings a welcome dynamic to the Fitness Together team of fitness professionals.

Lori Robinson

Certified Personal Trainer
Graduate of the University of Illinois at Springfield

Lori Robinson is the founder and owner of The LLR Group, Inc. She is a motivational speaker, facilitator and consultant. Lori also works for school district 186.

Lori's goal is to help individuals seek strategies for self-renewal and positive life-style changes by determining areas of ineffectiveness, underachievement and unworthiness in their lives. Her dedication to sharing life-changing information motivates individuals to live their best lives and pursure their dreams.

Lori is not just talk. She lives out these principles in her own life, having overcome some significant challenges to achieve her current level of success. It is the application of these same principles that helped her to achieve a weight loss of over 80 pounds! Her desire is to utilize these life experiences to empower her clients to successfully conquer their own health and fitness goals.

Trae Cotner

Certified Personal Trainer
B.S. Kinesiology

Trae is a graduate of Springfield High School where he ran track and cross country. Trae was a state qualifier in cross country, as well as city champion and all conference in the 3200 on the track.

He continued his success at SIU-Edwardsville, being named Team Captain his senior year and as a member of 3 GLVC Conference Champion teams in track and field.

Currently Trae is an elementary PE teacher in Springfield as well as the Head boys track and field coach and assistant cross country coach at Springfield High School. In the 2 years he has coached at SHS, the boys cross country team has placed 4th and 6th at the state meet and the girls team finished 7th. He also coached 6 individual state qualifiers in 2008, and led his team to the state meet in 2009.

Trae plans to start a masters in Exercise Physiology in the fall of 2009. His interest in fitness and in developing training programs for "athletes" of all ages makes him an effective trainer and motivator for the clients he works with at Fitness Together.

Trae has completed 3 marathons: Chicago in 2006 and Boston in 2007 and 2009.

Rebecca Romberger

Rebecca developed her passion for health and fitness as a young child. As a 5th and 6th grader, she regularly delighted in long bike rides from Colorado Springs, through Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods and back home. She competed in track starting at age 12, and continued to run competitively throughout middle and high school. Rebecca competed in her first triathlon in 8th grade. She also took horseback riding lessons for 3 years, as well as figure skating lessons at the Broadmoor, and gymnastics until she was 16.

As a woman in America who has experienced the pressure to be ‘perfect’ and live up to unrealistic physical standards, Rebecca is familiar with the heartbreak, disappointment, and distress that come from not fitting the ideal society depicts. It from this pain and disappointment that Rebecca’s passion has grown. Her own struggles have propelled Rebecca forward, allowing her to become free and confident with who she is, as well as who she isn’t, and fueled her passion for life, health, and fitness.

Currently, Rebecca is a pursuing her masters in Human Development Counseling and will be integrating her counseling skills with her passion for fitness upon completion of her degree. She is a certified personal trainer and is a certified Zumba & Zumba toning instructor.

Rebecca believes total health includes body, mind, and spirit. She is dedicated to equipping individuals to meet their goals in fitness, nutrition, and health. Her delicate and sensitive approach to health and fitness is tailored to meet the needs of each individual. With her counseling background, Rebecca believes change must happen very intentionally, with time, and endurance. She does not believe rapid, changes last long term, rather falling down and getting back up offers opportunity to grow, learn, and identify the actions in life that work. Rebecca’s deepest desire and goal, is to train each individual in a fashion that equips them for lifelong success in total wellness.
