So put down those empty carbs for a night and have cardio some fun!

Triangle Aquatic Center
275 Convention Drive Cary, NC

Background

Those who have been around the local running scene for a while will recall the popular R.I.T.N.Y. (pronounced WRIT-knee) 5K put on by the Cary YMCA. The race started right at midnight on New Year’s Eve. (For the uninformed, R.I.T.N.Y.stands for Run in the New Year).Later, the Y moved the race to the second Saturday in January and ran the event at Lake Crabtree. But it just wasn’t the same as running at the stroke of midnight, so after a few years, the race was discontinued.

Last year's results

In 2010 the race was resurrected and over 100 runners and walkers showed up to celebrate its return. Mark Hallen was the first celebrant to finish completing the 5K course in 17:28. Anne McVeigh won the women’s title in 23:04.

Entry Fees/T-Shirts

The entry fee for the 5K is $20 (increasing to $25 after on race day). For the mile, the fee is $`15 with no late fee. T-shirts are guaranteed to all those registered by the 30th.

Awards

In the 5K awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions (both sexes): 12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-over.

Miracle League of the Triangle

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Miracle League of the Triangle which provides opportunities to all children with special needs to play baseball regardless of their abilities. For more information on the Miracle League, go to www.miracleleagueofthetriangle.com.
