A Warm –Up?
There is nothing wrong with touching your toes. In fact, if you can do it, you are ahead of most people in terms of flexibility. For ages the warm-up has been a quick toe touch and some time on the bike or treadmill. Take a look around your average gym and notice that is more than likely what most people are doing. Unfortunately, this is not the best way to prepare for physical activity.
Many of the experts are now calling it “movement prep” or “mobility work.” Most importantly, we are trying to put a stronger emphasis on the “warm-up.” We want you to go through a series of dynamic movements that raise your core temperature and activate joints and muscles that you will use in your session that day.
Your “warm-up” can come in many different shapes and sizes. For example, At Fitness Together we have designed a “warm-up” or “movement prep” routine that incorporates moving each joint through all appropriate ranges of motion, thus increasing flexibility and developing proper movement patterns. It will also assist in the prevention of injury, such as muscle pulls.
