Traveling can be a tricky time for someone who is trying to stick to a healthy eating plan and workout regimen, but it is not impossible to stay on track. Staying healthy while traveling simply requires a little more effort and planning. If you are planning to take a flight, packing a cooler with pre made meals and healthy snacks is a great way to avoid the pitfalls of unhealthy airport food. You can also pack items that do not require a cooler such as almonds, tuna packets, and protein bars.
Once you reach your destination, it is best to always request a hotel room with a refrigerator. This will allow you to stock the fridge with healthy options to have on hand for when hunger strikes such as fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. If you are unable to get a room with a refrigerator, filling the bathtub with ice can also work.
There are obviously times when you will be eating out at restaurant, but most restaurants will cater to your dietary needs. Don't be afraid to ask for grilled meats and steamed veggies instead of the often fried option. Also, try to opt for the low calorie condiments such as mustard and hot sauce.
Lastly, schedule time to get your workouts in. Traveling shouldn't become an excuse to not strive towards your fitness goals. Whether you have access to a hotel gym, or simply doing a body weight workout in your room, you will feel much better sticking to your plan.
