I joined Fitness Together almost a year ago because it was time to "Take myself OFF the shelf".  Like so many middle aged women I know, I spent the last 30 years taking care of everyone in my family and ended up neglecting myself in the meantime. The people I know today would never believe I use to be a runner. But life happened and slowly I began to lose myself and the next thing you know I've gained tons of weight, I have no stamina, and I start to have health issues.

     Last year my neighbor and my friend Mark Wesley told me about Fitness Together. He and his wife knew I was looking for a place I could go that would help me get fit. I knew myself well enough that just joining a gym would not "cut-it" for me-- because I was honest enough with myself to know that I would not push myself the way a trainer would.  I tried a cross-fit gym for a couple of weeks, and felt extremely overwhelmed. The last time I went there, I walked out after the first round of the circuit and sat in my car in cried and of course I never went back. 

    But you see, it wasn't just because I was out-of-shape that made working out so overwhelming for me. For the last 5 years we have been caring for a son who was diagnosed with BiPolar 1 disorder. He  has been in and out of treatment several times over the past 5 years and last year he was in treatment for 10 months. As his mother, I found myself spending all my time and energy helping him, and stress and worry took it's toll. I am a perfect example of what stress can do to a person's body. Luckily, I have a great family that supports me going to FT, and they encourage me all the time.  But what is so incredible is that I have shared our story with all the trainers at West Seattle Fitness Together, and they have all been extremely supportive of me and my personal struggles. They all understand that some days are just not good days for me and somehow they get me through it. This is exactly what I needed.   

      All the hard work is really starting to pay off.  My clothes are starting to fit better, I have tons more energy, my knees don't hurt like they use to, and most of all I don't feel so overwhelmed with life.  I am stronger than I've been in years both physically and mentally!  My sweet sister who lives in Texas came to see me last month and this is what she said after she left and went back home....."I can tell a huge difference in everything about you from your attitude to your over-all look.  It's amazing to see you work this hard and inspiring".  

Thanks guys at West Seattle Fitness Together!  I've come a long way, and I know I still have a long way to go.
