Last January, I was 55 and overweight.  I had high blood pressure and recurring back issues.  I had carried extra weight for years, but in the previous year the number on the scale kept creeping up.  I decided I needed to do something. I had worked out at gyms on and off throughout my adult life. It was difficult for me to stay motivated, as I never saw the results I desired, and so would quickly stop going.

I looked around at places in Charlotte to help me achieve my goals of weight-loss and stronger core to help prevent back pain.  Traditional gyms did not appeal to me, I’d tried that before and was unsuccessful. I knew I needed more accountability and more help knowing what to do.

I went into Fitness Together Steele Creek, and met Lennard.  He immediately put me at ease and convinced me that his goal was to help me achieve my goals. I met with the nutritionist, and was paired with a personal trainer, Morgan.  Morgan was the perfect match for me.

Having a set time to exercise, and knowing Morgan was waiting for me, had me remaining consistent with my workouts.  I knew that in order to lose weight, I needed to intake fewer calories than I burned. The nutritionist and my trainer reinforced this information.  Morgan designed workouts that challenged me, but were attainable. My workouts started very basic, with little weight. I was out of shape. She gradually increased the weight and difficulty of my exercises.  I began to see the pounds come off and to feel so much better.

In January, I wasn’t convinced joining Fitness Together would help me.  I wasn’t convinced I could stay motivated. I wasn’t convinced I would keep showing up.  But with every success, Morgan was there celebrating, and every set-back, she encouraged me to keep ‘trusting the process.’  

I lost 25 lbs. in 9 months (and am 5 lbs. from my goal weight).  My blood pressure is solidly in the normal range, and my back is so much better.  If there were any negatives about this experience it is the fact that none of my old clothes fit me.  

When people ask me how I’ve lost the weight, I tell them: “I counted calories, worked out, and I had tremendous support from Fitness Together Steele Creek.”

Lost over 100lbs in 9 1/2 months*

I was scheduled to have my gastric bypass surgery, and I needed to establish maintenance and fitness program.  Knowing that I was going to spend serious cash on the operation, I wanted to be successful as much as possible so I hired a professional trainer.  I contacted Joe and after our first trial runs, I decided to enroll in a complete package.  Well, after two months of working out with Joe and JT, I was unqualified to have my surgery, I was 40 pounds lighter and in good shape*. I decided then to take the money that I was going to spend on the bypass surgery and continue on with Joe.  Eight months later and an additional 60 pounds down for a total of 100 pounds lost*, I am in better shape than when I left the military over 25 years ago*.  Joe, JT, and Gwen were patient, consistent and very motivating which allowed me to be successful at my weight loss….My new way of life. I now completely enjoy exercising and look forward to it every day. Yes I exercise daily, something I hadn't done since I was in the military.  I would highly recommend Fitness Together Steele Creek to Anyone who is serious about weight loss and getting into shape.

down 116 lbs!!! *

Here I am again, on the elliptical doing my cardio. As my legs and arms warm up and I get into the rhythm of the machine, my mind starts to wander …….

Just over a year and a half ago I was 51 and worried about my weight which had ballooned to just shy of 300 pounds. My knees hurt, my ankles hurt, I was short of breath, I snored, my cholesterol was sky high, my blood pressure was critically high, and my confidence in myself stunk. I was even worried that I would not be around in 5 years. I knew I needed to do something and had tried, but I lacked the drive and the knowledge to know what to do.

A very good friend had found Fitness Together. She had only been going about 6 weeks, but you could already see great results. As I listened to her talk I eventually started thinking that maybe I’ll check this place out.

So, with a lot of doubt I went in and was warmly welcomed by Joe Reed. We talked about nutrition and exercise and what I wanted to accomplish. He showed me around the brightly lit workout rooms with all their equipment. We did a trial session.

Still not convinced, I came back for two more sessions before I finally was sure that this would be good for me. So, I set a personal goal of losing 20 pounds and started to work.

The sweat was starting to run down my arms as I continued doing my cardio …..

As I continued day dreaming, I remember some of the trainers. Alex, always pushing me to do “good stuff”, Jenny, who taught me to “love my Bosu”. Eric, who is a lot of fun to box with, and Liz, who has quietly challenged me to do more, helped me with proper form, knowledge and confidence. Besides these trainers, there is also, Joe and Mike. They all have their individual talents and help you to realize what you can really do. I found out quickly, that if you are committed and give an honest effort, they will give you 110% back.

Wiping my face with my towel, my mind wanders again …..

I have gone from 3 push ups to 75, I struggled with a 30 seconds plank and now have done one over 9 minutes. My pants waist size went from 48 to 34 and my shirts went from XX-Large to Large.* My cholesterol is in the normal low range, my blood pressure is in the low normal range and I have energy to spare! Oh, and now I don’t snore!*

Best of all, my goal of losing 20 pounds changed to 40, then 50, then 75 …… and now my goal is 115 pounds, and I only have a few more to go.*

I stop the elliptical and look around …..

I moved to Charlotte last summer, and after realizing how wonderful southern cooking can be, I eventually realized I was not happy where I was physically or really even with my mood and spirit. I decided I needed a new routine- a lifestyle makeover so to speak. I figured a gym might be the way to go after receiving a flyer from a big gym down the street. I wanted to look up some other options though, and a search on the Internet kept returning this name: Fitness Together.
I checked out both places. In the big gym I got a pricing rundown and a hard sell and the feeling that I would probably have to "go it alone" when it came to goals and workouts.  At Fitness Together I got an assessment, advice, a chance to have a trial run, and a feeling that I would not only get support and motivation, but the kind of accountability that is the greatest motivator of all for me. These guys and girls will NOT let you slack off, but they will let you show them how much potential you have, and they will get it out of you!
And here I am, after working for about 7 months with some of the most knowledgeable, caring, and talented trainers I've ever had the good fortune to meet. I've lost weight, sure, but more importantly I've gained confidence, knowledge, and strength I never knew I had! I am so happy I found "my gym". Thank you Joe, Steve, JT, Sarah for giving me this new life and for giving me myself back! I could not have done it without Fitness Together.

At 51 years old I found myself as overweight and out of shape as I could be.  I was convinced that I was too far gone to fix the problem.  I decided I'd give it a shot and called Fitness Together.  I was overweight, completely sedentary and had a hip replacement.  Joe said that it didn't matter where I was when I started, just as long as I started.

That's exactly what I did.  Now I've lost 125lbs and bunches of inches.*  I can do pushups now!

Joe, Mike and Ray offered only encouragement and always made me feel my goals were attainable.

So just what has Marsha done???  Lost 126lbs.*  Lost 16 inches off of her waist.*  Lost 19 inches off her hips.*  Has gone from not being able to do 1 pushup to now being able to do 42 in a row.  Marsha is in her 50's with a total hip replacement.  She has proven that there are no excuses! *

down 83lbs & not slowing down! *

“Private training gets results, gimmicks don’t”.  I’ve always been skeptical about claims that sound too good to be true.  This tag line from FT sounded like typical marking fodder until I met Joe for my free introductory session.  Joe and all the trainers at Fitness Together Steele Creek have held up their end of the bargain through a professional approach based on proven results and hard work.  Each trainer I have worked with at FTSC has demonstrated in-depth knowledge in nutrition, exercise, recovery and on really bad days, even a little compassion.

While I still have a long way to go, I am proud of my accomplishments so far.  I know that I could not have come so far so quickly without the team at Steele Creek.  I can really see that when my job requires extended travel.  I don’t push as hard in the hotel gym (if I make it there at all); I slide on my meals and skip cardio.  When I stick to Joe’s plan – and Ray’s routines – and if I am honest with myself, I see steady progress.

The key – to me at least – is just that, steady progress.  This is a lifestyle change for me, not a project I need to finish before I get back to what I was doing before.  I can’t imagine a better team of trainers or a more supportive group of clients.  Thanks, to everyone at FTSC.

After arriving at FT, Scott quickly went from 21.4% body fat to 14.4%.*  He's dropped 30lbs and lost almost 5 inches off his waist!* I think the pictures show even more of a dramatic difference than that.  How did he do it?  He did it by staying consistent with his resistance training, his food intake and cardiovascular exercise.

Since joining Fitness Together, John has made a remarkable transformation.  He has lost 40lbs while also gaining muscle.*  He has tripled his pushups, and now has the resting heart rate of a marathon runner!  John spends time outside of the studio staying active by coaching his kids baseball and softball games at the local athletic association.  He has also starting participating in local 5K runs.

His pictures show an incredible change, but we're not done with him yet.  John is on his way to being a lean, mean machine.

I was 52 years old and knew I needed to do something to get healthy. I received a Fitness Together flyer in the mail and decided to call and get a free session. That day changed my life. When I went for my assessment and saw I was 200 pounds, I wondered if there was any hope. There was. Fitness Together gave me that hope, the attention and tools I needed to change my life and lifestyle. The trainers pushed me to keep moving to the next level and beyond. When I thought I could do no more, they showed me what I was really capable of doing and achieving.

I lost 50 pounds, went from a size 16 to a 6.* I was hardly able to walk a mile and now I have run 5K's and one 10K. I never would have accomplished any of these goals without Fitness Together. Before I trained with the trainers at Fitness Together, I had decades of working out on my own or with a friend. I had been attracted to joining classes because I need the structure and motivation of those around me. My experience at Fitness Together taught me, firsthand, the benefit of having a personal trainer. lost 98 lbs...getting close to 100 lbs!*

Before joining Fitness Together, my body was in terrible shape. I weighed 292 pounds, I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, I was dealing with constant knee and low back pain, and I simply felt sluggish and achy on a daily basis. At 35 years old, this was not the existence I had imagined for myself. With my extensive family history of diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure, I was terrified of the future I was creating for myself.

Making the phone call to Joe at Fitness Together was a life-changing decision. After the first few months, my blood sugar level was well within the normal range, my knees and back were no longer hurting, and I felt much more flexible and energetic. I could feel the old me coming back to life! After a little over a year, I have lost over 76 pounds and 41 inches* – much more than I ever expected. I have run four 5k races and training for my first 10k race. My friends and family are amazed by my transformation - both physically and mentally.

My journey with Fitness Together has taught me that I can accomplish great things with commitment, hard work, and the invaluable support of others. While I still have more weight to lose, I now have the confidence to make my goals a reality. I have developed healthier habits and gained knowledge about nutrition and the importance of permanent lifestyle changes, not fad diets, to maintain my health for the long term. I am excited about what the future has in store and I owe it all to Joe and the amazing trainers at Fitness Together for helping me to find the fit, happy, and healthy person I was destined to be.
