Camping is a favorite summer pastime for millions of people. From RVs to car camping, to backpacking off the grid; no matter your camping style, there’s something that’s completely rejuvenating about unplugging and getting out. It is good for your mind and your body. It is important not to lose track of your diet while you are out in the woods. Here are a few tips to help you eat healthy while on your camping adventure.
Take Extra Time to Plan
When you go camping you are going to spend an ample amount of planning — especially if you have a family. However, rather than throwing food in the cooler, and “trying to figure it out as you go,” try to take a little extra time to plan your healthy meals. Prep Salads, healthy fruits and vegetable snacks ahead. This not only ensures a healthy meal or snack, but it will save on prep time while camping.
One Night for S’MORES
It's tough not to sit around the campfire and not indulge yourself in the sticky goodness of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers stuffing yourself. You are camping this is the one time to overindulge, right? Not so fast, it is okay to satisfy your craving one night, but resist the rest of your trip. You might call that night your “cheat” night. Try a healthier dessert like baked apples with cinnamon.
Hydrate More than You Think
Always bring plenty of water. Your outside in the summer, chances are it will be hot. It’s important to stay hydrated with water. Especially, if you are hiking, canoeing or biking. You should try to drink at least 1 gallon of water a day. Plan ahead and freeze water to add to individual water bottle while camping. Try to avoid having beverages that will dehydrate you like soda and alcohol.
