Weight Loss-What To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up

Jun 16, 2021

Whether you want to lose 10 lbs or 100 lbs, there will be times when weight loss feels like a losing battle. When that happens you may be tempted to skip a workout, binge on junk food, or give up on losing weight altogether. Before you do, try one of the things in this blog. It could help make all the difference!

Set smaller goals

Big goals can become overwhelming and feel impossible to reach. Try dividing long-term goals (losing 25 lbs) into monthly or weekly goals that are focused on the behaviors that will help you reach those goals. For example, if you typically eat out 4-5 nights a week, focus first on cutting that back to 2 nights per week and setting aside some time to meal prep, so you still have healthy options readily available. If that’s still too much you can set goals for the day, the afternoon, or even the next five minutes. Shorter terms goals feel--and often are!--more manageable. And guess what? Over time they add up to big wins!

Step away from the scale

If the numbers on your scale are bumming you out, stop looking at your scale. Instead, measure success by the way your clothes fit, the compliments you get from friends and how much better your body works than it did before. After all, those are the reasons why you started this journey in the first place!

Plan ahead

When you don't have a plan, it's easy to reach for quick fixes like drive-thrus, cheating your workouts, or staying up late “to relax”. So prep your meals, plan your day and stick to your bedtime. Make it easy to make great choices, and you’ll get closer to those big results every day.

Get some sleep

You need nutrition, exercise, and sleep to be your best. So, make it a priority to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. If you need help falling asleep, consider keeping a regular bedtime, cutting down on screen time before bed, listening to a guided meditation, or drinking a warm cup of herbal tea.

Share your concerns

If you feel stuck or discouraged, talk to someone supportive, like your personal trainer. That’s what they’re here for! They can help remind you of how far you've come, suggest helpful changes and support you in continuing to do things that are great for your health.
