FT: What was your overall transformation numbers (weight change, size change, etc)?
Christine: Overall, to date, I've lost about 40 pounds, I used to wear a size 6 to 8 in women's clothing now I wear a size 0 or 2.
FT: How long did this take you?
Christine: it's been a little over a year since i began my fitness journey. I started out for the first few months just doing cardio and then in August, it'll be a year that I began resistance training and lifting weights.
FT: How many days per week do you workout? Days of resistance training? Days of cardio?
Christine: On average my goal is to work out 5 days a week. Every time I go to the gym I do weights and cardio now.
FT: What kind of cardio do you do?
Christine: Honestly , it depends on my mood ! I alternate between the treadmill and the elliptical. I also change up on the type of cardio I do. Right now , I'm loving intervals. They're exhausting but you're done in 15-20 minutes!
FT: Describe your diet.
Christine: I try to eat as best as I possibly can. I am not a morning person and I could never find something to eat for breakfast that was quick , tasty , and would not upset my stomach so I would often skip that meal. Now , every morning I make myself a protein shake with bananas, whatever protein powder I am feeling ( usually cookies and cream flavored!) with unsweetened almond milk. It really helps my jump start my day and more importantly , my metabolism!
I work at an office so bringing my lunch to the office is always best. When I bring my lunch , I usually make a little extra for dinner and bring that in. In a perfect world ,I would bring my lunch every day but that is not the case. So when i do order out for lunch , I try and be smart about what I order and check nutritional facts online. Sometimes the salads not the best choice!
Dinner is my favorite meal-without a doubt. My husband and myself cook pretty much every weeknight in our home. We'll have a lean protein , usually fish, lean pork , or shrimp and then tons of vegetables. My personal favorites are brussel sprouts , mushrooms ,broccoli, and cauliflower. My one indulgence every night is I have to have an avocado !
FT: What was your biggest dietary change to lead to your transformation?
Christine: The biggest dietary change for me was realizing that not all calories are created equal. I used to obsess over calories and I would love eating all those frozen meals because they were low calorie and easy. My body just would not budge. I would not lose a pound. I would get so frustrated because I was starving , denying myself things that I enjoyed, like a glass of wine and nothing would change. Now I really look at what I'm putting into my body , I'm
aware of the difference of carbs. and how much protein my body actually needs. I watch what I eat but it's not a crazy numbers game for me anymore.
FT: For those that are reading this, what advice would you give in terms of changing your body?
Christine: The best advice i can give is : don't be afraid. I was always super nervous and uncomfortable at the gym. I would run right over to the cardio machines and spend at least an hour on there, killing myself. I was always afraid of the weights ; I didn't know what to do with them and I had this irrational fear of becoming "bulky" Since I began lifting weights and doing resistance training my body has completely transformed. I am leaner than I ever thought I could be. I feel strong and so comfortable with my body now. I can't imagine going back!
