ICD-10 Codes for Documenting Metabolic Syndrome

The following list of ICD-10 codes is intended to help you get started on the documentation process. We encourage you to work closely with your coders to maximize the benefits that proper documentation can provide.

Metabolic syndrome: E88.81

Drug resistance to insulin; Dysmetabolic syndrome x; Insulin resistance; Metabolic syndrome x; Dysmetabolic syndrome X. This code can be used when people meet criteria for metabolic syndrome or any name used in a similar fashion (e.g., dysmetabolic syndrome, Syndrome X, etc.) The first time that the syndrome is documented, we recommend to code also for the individual components of the syndrome.
