More Than 35 Percent of U.S. Adults Now Obese

Oct 2, 2012

More than 78 million American adults are now considered obese. Obesity is defined as a body mass index of 30 or more. Now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have released a map based on 2011 data that ranks all 50 U.S. states by the percentage of obese adults. The data shows that southern states have the highest percentages of obese adults.

"In fact, 34.9 percent of Mississippi residents were considered to be obese in 2011, making it the most obese state in America. Colorado, on the other hand, had the lowest percentage of obese citizens, at 20.7 percent."

The disturbing fact, however, is that no state had less than 20 percent obese adults.
