The Importance of Staying Hydrated

Connor Gray, CPT

In a typical daily routine of an average person, staying hydrated is often lost and forgotten about. For some reason, drinking water for some gets lost in the back of the mind and is forgotten about for most parts of the day. The human body depends on water for survival so it is always necessary to stay hydrated throughout the day!

Dehydration can have many negative effects on physical and mental health of someone. According to American Academy of Family Physicians, dehydration can cause fatigue, sickness, headaches, loss of motor and memory coordination, and negatively affect mood swings. Some signs to determine if you are dehydrated can include a dry mouth, sleepiness, confusion, dizziness, headaches, and dark urine. If you see one of these signs, drink some water.

If you are someone that struggles with drinking water and staying hydrated throughout the day, here are some possible tips that could help you stay hydrated and pave a way to a more clear, positive mental and physical health. Some easy ways to stay hydrated include purchasing a reusable water bottle and filling it up throughout the day, drink water with every meal you eat, and one of the most important tips, if you feel hungry or the stomach gowling, drink some water and it will help you feel more full.

No matter what type of diet, exercise, or daily routine you are on, it is always important to stay hydrated and drink lots of water!
