Group exercise... sounds simple, doesn't it? Throw on the sweat pants, lace up your sneakers, grab your water bottle and hop into class!.. right? Well, in an era where a "new" trend in fitness is popping up on every corner, how do you determine which is the right fit for you? Names like "Crossfit", "Cardio Kickboxing", "Zumba", "Fit Wall", "Pound", "Bar Class" and many, many, more come to mind. While all of the afore mentioned "groups" provide a good workout, let's not forget who this is all about... YOU!
There is not a "one size fits all" type of a group program that will take into consideration your recently repaired meniscus, your hypertension, your L4-L5 spinal fusion, or whatever your specific ailment may entail. Most group exercise programs are for lack of a better term "cookie cutter" programs and exercises that all participants are expected to get through to the best of their abilities.
This is where PERSONAL training comes in. Personal trainers who are certified and or degreed in this specific field use a scientific and prescriptive approach to designing and implementing a comprehensive program tailored to an individual. With problems such as muscular imbalance and skeletal misalignment ever present, wouldn't it be nice to get in some physical activity that will not exacerbate the issues?
All things considered, group exercise is not a bad thing. You will burn calories while being motivated to participate alongside your peers. It is a great way to supplement your workout regimen.
When it comes down to the best possible program though, it is time to hire a personal trainer. Don't leave your health, wellness, and ultimately your future to chance by spinning your wheels and going back to the drawing board. Take control of your health, you only have one body.
