Where to begin? You come to Fitness Together feeling a tad overwhelmed and not really sure if you are ready to make a commitment. You think, in fact you know, that this is gonna cost you, not only in cold hard cash but physically as well. As PJ shows you an F.T. PowerPoint presentation your mind starts to wander (which is easy to do for any PowerPoint demo). You start asking yourself many questions: "Is this gonna hurt? Will I even be able to do a single push up? Can I afford this? What will happen if I puke on the rug from sheer exhaustion? Should I buy instead that flat screen TV? What have I got myself into?"

You then start to rationalize, "I will just eat right" or "I'll buy a treadmill and workout in my basement". But then reality sets in; maybe not right away but maybe days or weeks later at home or at work or while driving- you feel the bulge of your tummy under your shirt; you're out of breath when you walk up stairs or you just don't feel awake all day. You realize that you are in fact ready to challenge yourself and workout like you never have before but you're gonna' need some help. You join F.T in spite of your self-doubts and fears. The flat screen TV will have to wait.

The first day is sheer torture. They prod and poke at your body and take measurements with funny looking instruments. Shriek! The weight scale tells no lies. They make you stretch and do push-ups and sit-ups. Suddenly, day one is over. You think, "This actually is not so bad. I can do this." Later on that day, you remember that the trainers are all friendly and are genuinely interested in making you a better person. It's actually a nice place to be.

Your second session comes along and you are now feeling even less self-doubt. Some of the exercises they start you with are challenging; you've never used free weights before; and those pieces of exercise equipment look intimidating; your body has never done that type of move; you want to puke on the rug from sheer exhaustion. This is the point where you would normally quit if you were doing this on your own but instead your personal trainer encourages you and makes sure that you progress slowly and surely. You decide, "Yes, I will return for my next session- after all, I've already paid for it." Subconsciously though, you know that you really do enjoy the workout! This continues on and on for several weeks. You feel really comfortable working out at F.T. It's like your own personal gym. Some sessions are really hard and you think, "How can I get a refund?" But you persevere because your pants start to fit better and you have lots more energy during the day. You start to see toned muscles underneath your clothes.  You like what you see in the mirror. You've made some new friends at the gym and you can't wait for your workday to end so that you can get a good workout at F.T. You've made vast improvements in your exercise routines. You have never once puked on the rug in spite of sheer exhaustion. You can now do dozens of pushups and sit-ups within a minute. You are stronger and fitter like you have never been before. You've come a long way from that terrifying day 1. You think, in fact you know, that it was all worth it.

Having turned 50, a type II diabetic, overweight, not feeling energetic or healthy, and desperate for a Christmas gift for my wife, I stopped by the Fitness Together location in Natick in December 2012.  After a brief meeting, I left with a wonderful gift for my wife and a life changing plan for both of us.  Although my wife Maureen was reluctant to start right away, on 1/3/13 I had my initial evaluation / training session with Roupen.  My goals were simple; lose weight, feel better physically, and improve my blood sugar and cholesterol levels that had started to reach concerning levels.  Change is tough and given how out of shape I was and the many bad habits I had formed over 50+ years, the beginning of my new routine was more than a little challenging.  Given my goals, I trained with Roupen 3 times a week.  In addition, I was made aware of what and how much I was eating.  To help guide me, I kept an on line diary of what I was eating that the staff at Fitness Together could review and comment on.  Three months in, I felt better and dropped a few pounds.  It wasn’t until my quarterly doctor’s appointment and lab results that the benefits truly came to light.  My blood sugar and cholesterol had more than improved.  My doctor was shocked.  The blood sugar improved to the point that he hinted at changing/reducing my medication which he did three months later.*  For the first time in a long time, I left the doctor’s office with a smile.  The cost and hard work had more than paid off.  Having watched how much my life had improved, Maureen could no longer stay on the side lines and she started working with Roupen in March 2013.  The results for her have been amazing as well.  She has dropped some weight and her 52 year old body, sore and battered from continuing to play hockey, feels better than ever.  We work out with Roupen twice a week and this December it will be two years.  We continue to be driven to lose weight, watch what we eat, and work hard thanks to Roupen and Adam.  Roupen varies the workouts so they never get boring and he provides just the right amount of encouragement and motivation so that each session is challenging, satisfying, and fun.  We look forward to many more months and years with Fitness Together.  They have certainly helped us improve our lives and laugh a bit along the way.

    Super Mom!

"I started going regularly to Fitness Together almost a year ago because I wanted to improve my health and strength.  I have really enjoyed my sessions with all of the trainers and have been getting stronger and stronger.  I had no idea though that this increased strength would help keep me and my family safe as well.  I was recently carrying my 35 pound son down the stairs when my foot caught the edge of my robe.  I started falling straight down the stairs with him in my arms.  If my legs had not been so strong I would have landed on top of him on the hardwood stairs and surely injured myself and him.  However, I was able to keep myself up as I bounded down multiple stairs at a time until I landed at the bottom of the stairs in a sitting position with my son still safe in my arms.  I definitely would not have been so lucky if my legs were not so strong.  Thank you, Fitness Together, for keeping me and my family safe!"

I started at Fitness Together Lincoln a year ago because I had changed jobs and my new position required much more stamina than my previous office position.  I realized I didn’t have the strength or stamina I needed to succeed.  I then I received a mailing from Fitness Together and made a life-changing call.

I can’t say enough about my trainer’s professionalism during the past year.  They both knew when to push me and when to ease off.  The ability to work with more than one trainer was ideal for me.  It allowed me the opportunity to change my workouts  when I needed it most.  Even with an old shoulder injury, the trainers found effective ways to train and motivate me in order to reach my goals.  My trainers are concerned about my goals and are sincere.   I appreciate that very much.

I ‘m thrilled I decided to invest in my future by joining Fitness Together.  I have no regrets.  I have new healthy habits and great confidence in myself.  I have lost weight and inches.*  Thanks to all of you who played an important role in my journey.  It’s been a year now and I feel great!

Chris earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History/Sociology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2005. He is a 2014 graduate of the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI), holds a Russian Kettlebell Certification, and is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).  A college professor of his stated, "structure dictates function".  He found this to be true while finding his own training philosophy. Proper form is essential before adding a load to any movement; thus, minimizing the risk of injury and the frustration it elicits.  Whether training a novice or a superior athlete there are a handful of fundamental human movements that when implemented into an appropriate program will improve strength levels and day to day quality of life.

Chris was involved in the competitive athletics of football, baseball, and basketball through college. However, after graduating he began working a construction job that involved a lot of travel, not sticking to an exercise program with any consistency, and adopting poor nutritional habits. Following 6 years of practicing these bad habits he ballooned up to 320lbs. Starting a family he realized a lifestyle change was essential to become the husband and father he wanted to be. He rededicated himself to fitness and nutrition, lost 80lbs thus far, and found his true passion in life. Now he wants to spread that passion to others as he has seen first hand the benefits it produces both physically and mentally.  Providing the tools and motivation on a client's journey of altering their lifestyle to achieve, and surpass, their goals is the ultimate reward as your trainer.

I'm also an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B). To tell you a little bit about myself, I have been a resident of Natick my whole life. I am a 1998 Natick High graduate, and a 2003 Framingham State College graduate yielding a B.A. in Economics. Realizing a career in the business world was not for me, I turned to my first love, fitness. At 16, I joined the gym and weight lifting became a huge part of my life. Going to the gym four days a week for over 10 years, I have seen a gradual yet steady change in my body. I enjoy learning new training techniques for myself as well as my clients to keep our workouts exciting, challenging, and fresh. I enjoy interacting with diverse clientele. I look forward to meeting with you and helping strive to meet your fitness goals!

  • Chris Giannini
    Personal Trainer

"Fall in love with the process just as much as you love the prize!" -E Thomas
