The "Dirty Dozen"

Feb 22, 2011

In his book, The Most Effective Ways to Live Longer, Jonny Bowden details an anti-aging action plan. He teaches going organic to fight environmentally free radicals. He further explains how doing so can significantly slow down the aging process. Among his findings are "The Dirty Dozen."

The following foods, according to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), have the highest level of contaminants of forty-seven tested fruits and vegetables. They are knows as "The Dirty Dozen."

-Peaches

-Apples

-Bell Peppers

-Celery

-Nectarines

-Strawberries

-Cherries

-Pears

-Grapes

-Spinach

-Lettuce

-Potatoes

Although the items listed above deal with produce, Jonny Bowden adds these three items to his "should be bought organic" list:

-Meat

-Milk

-Coffee

These products can be heavily laced with antibiotics, steroids and growth hormones.

The primary reason for eating organic food is to avoid the intake of the chemicals used in non-organic farming.
